Don't look now, but Federer in danger of getting bounced by Falla in the first round; down 2-1.

Sounds like he didn't miss much: Chile had a vast superiority in possession, players were tumbling like dice, the referee was a pedantic fuck, the Swiss got reduced to 10 men, missed a sitter in injury time at the end of the game, and lost 1-0.

Still, the Swiss may have enjoyed that more than us English enjoyed Friday's bonerpalooza.

And yet you're probably second to the Germans in performance to date among the Europeans.

BTW, I checked the record™, and, in terms of points, England are way down the charts.  We're second in performance amongst Europeans in our group!

Netherlands (6 pts); Slovenia and Portugal (4); Greece, Germany, Serbia, Denmark and Switzerland (3) all have more points than England (2) after each has played 2 matches.  Only France and Slovakia are worse (1), while Spain has 0 pts from their one game, but can race to 3 pts with a win today against the mighty Hondurans.

So, expectations are, after the first 2 rounds of matches, England will be tied with Italy for the third worst European team out of 13.  [Ash] ...but only 1 of 5 sides who remain unbeaten. [/Ash].

Epic match going on between two no-names, Mahut and Eisner.

Right now it looks like this:

Mahut  4 6 7 6 30
Isner    6 3 6 7 30

Yes, thirty games each in the fifth set.

Now the longest match in measured time in Wimbledon history. Also, the most games in one set in the Open era. They are within striking distance of the most games ever played in one Wimbledon match, and that was before they even had tiebreakers.

This is pretty funny. Federer's match on centre court is bumped from ESPN in favor of the Isner/Mahout battle.

And Federer just dropped a set to a qualifier.

The Guardian is live-blogging this as well:

6pm: The score stands at 34-34. In order to stay upright and keep their strength, John Isner and Nicolas Mahut have now started eating members of the audience. They trudge back to the baseline, gnawing on thigh-bones and sucking intestines. They have decided that they will stay on Court 18 until every spectator is eaten. Only then, they say, will they consider ending their contest.

You know, in years to come, people will look back at the score today and first be sure it's a typo, second wonder what the rule was that allowed this, third wonder what that must have been like and fourth wonder how this was at all possible.

6-3, 4-6, 6-7, 7-6, 47-46 as of right now.   My wife was watching this match when I got out of the shower at 7:20 this morning.   It's now 2:35p.

Many years ago (more than 25, I'm pretty sure) Mats Wilander and John McEnroe played an epic Davis Cup match. My parents were visiting, and we watched it for awhile and then decided we needed to get on with our day, so we went out and did whatever we had planned (we went down and toured the Zilker arboretum, if I remember correctly), and then came back home. We turned on the TV, and those two were still at it.

That happened to me and the wife with the Rafa/Roger match a couple years ago.   We left in the first set, figuring we had better things to do, went to the zoo, drove out to Fulshear to eat BBQ, came home, and turned on only to watch the end of the greatest match ever.

That's bc you have a child.  I sleep more than 9 hours straight on every weekend day.

I sort of remember that.   Sort of.   It just seems.......impossible.

I haven't seen anything CLOSE to breaking serve since RB posted the link.  This would go on until someone collapsed.

Isner looked like he was toast on that big return winner from Mahout at 15-0, only to blast two huge serves.

58-57.   If Mahut would just learn how to box out and get a rebound, he could probably keep Isner from running down the court and scoring so easily.

You know, I was just trying to put this into perspective.

If this match had ended 16-14, like the other one, we'd be talking about what an outrageous score it was.

This is like if the Yankees beat the Red Sox 57-56.

Right, but realistically there was no more than two games at most before it would've been dark. Neither guy would've broken the other.
