God damnit Berkman. We have a kid on the ropes, and you strike out. What's happened to you?

How did Bourn get to third when he scored?

How did Bourn get to third when he scored?

Walked, then went to second on a single by Kepp. Went to third on a double-steal, but Kepp was thrown out at second on the steal, so no SB for Bourn.

3-run double by Dunn bring the Nats lead to 4-1.

Roy then misses on an outside heater during the following AB...yells out in frustration...the umpire steps forward and says something to the effect of "excuse me?".....Roy responds with "that's on you! that's on you!", seemingly referring to the tight zone affecting his ability to pitch....umpire throws him out...Mills comes out to argue but it doesn't really escalate...fuck knows who's supposed to pitch now.

What a great way to celebrate Memorial Day at the ballpark.

The home plate ump had been squeezing him. Roy threw an outside FB that was clearly off the plate and Roy showed some attitude and then pointed first his hand and then his glove at the umpire screaming "That's on YOU!" It was pretty obvious to me in the second inning that Roy was angling to get tossed.

I was thinking the same thing.

I imagine he probably doesn't want to pitch in Houston as an Astro again.

exactly.  i mean, neither the pitch before the dunn double or the one that got him tossed were that close, certainly not enough for the attitude he showed.

I'm perfectly fine with the dude asking for a trade as everybody around here knows. But when he puts on his uniform and goes out to pitch he needs to act like a motherfucking professional rather than a fucking baby. If the umpire had an ounce of sense he would have sauntered out a couple of steps and said, Look you fucking redneck, you can show your ass all you like today, I am NOT throwing you out of this game.

Yep. A starting pitcher who storms off the mound throwing a public hissy fit about a pitch properly called a ball can't point at the umpire demonstratively and expect to stay in the game. I knew he was a goner as soon as he started pointing. Dumbass move by Roy.

JD is sympathetic toward Oswalt, but I'm not buying it. Pitchers can't get away with pointing at an umpire.

The more I think about Oswalt's ejection, the more annoyed I get. You're the ace, Roy -- part of that is setting an example and stepping up when the team needs you. You know, like when of your team's starters is hurt and the bullpen is taxed. Throwing a fit and getting tossed is the antithesis of that.

I'm sick of JD ragging on the tight strike zone. Their pitcher has lived through it.

I didn't see it when it happened but they just reran it in the postgame and Oswalt didn't appear to be confronting the umpire in any way. He missed with a pitch outside and made some remarks but he was looking toward first and appeared to be dissatisfied with himself, although it could be ambiguous.  The ump sent a text message to Kevin in the postgame show saying that Oswalt came off the mound and pointed at him with his glove and was ejected for that.

What I saw in the replay wasn't bad, certainly not bad enough for an ejection. I really think someone has to rein in these jackass umpires.

There's a brief bit of it here:
http://scores.espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=300531118

Perhaps he was talking to himself first, then the ump came out, THEN he gestured at the ump and was tossed?

That does clearly have a piece of the glove-pointing and what looks like Roy saying, "That's on you," which is enough to get him run all right.

Yes it will, but the umpires have got to stop ratcheting it up by popping out from behind the plate and ripping their mask off every time they get a breeze that bothers them.

I didn't catch the game today and have not seen the replay, but Goff at the Examiner discusses it in his article today. LINK  (Remember, as Mr. Happy explained to us Examiner writers get paid in part based on traffic, so do the guy a favor and give him a courtesy click - decent info in today's article).  Don't know if it has anything to do with anything, but this isn't the first time that HPU Hohn has tossed Roy from a game:

Hohn, who ejected Oswalt on Aug. 22, 2004 in a matchup against the Chicago Cubs, was quick to toss him, causing catcher Humberto Quintero and manager Brad Mills to step in and argue their case.

Goff also has some quotes regarding the ejection:

"I was actually upset and talking to myself on the mound," Oswalt said. "He (Hohn) pointed to me saying 'you need to keep your mouth shut.' I told him I wasn't talking to him and he threw me out. I've never heard of being thrown out of a game by telling an umpire, 'I'm not talking to you.'

"He threw me out for saying that. It put us in a bad situation. The bullpen had to pick up six or seven innings."

And on Hohn:

Hohn led the major leagues with nine ejections last season.

I was at the game, so it was impossible to tell about the calls. I take it the ones in question were balls.

I was surprised when, a few pitches prior to the objection, the ump looked to confront Q. Q might have said something, but he kept his back to the ump. The ump then moves in front of Q to say something. The ump seemed like he was looking for drama. It doesn't surprise me that he led the league in ejections. Interestingly, none of his crew seemed interested in supporting him.

You could clearly read Roy's lips and he was definitely pointing at the ump while saying "That's on you" referring to Dunn's double. He was being an asshole and had basically quit today.

I agree.

Me too.  Oswalt clearly is saying "I ain't talking to you".  Hohn has no business coming out to seek a fight.  If he does want one, then freaking let the other guy fight him back instead of tossing him.  On Memorial Day, day game, good pitcher on the mound and the home plate umpire decides it's all about him.

*sigh*, what a huge joke.

I don't disagree, but I must say that I would've been in a shitty mood if I was having to wear one of those ice cream vendor hats.

Same here.  My dad's semi-pro team wore a similar red-billed and green-billed cap for most of their existence.  Those were some sweet lids and I wish I had one.

I liked them as well, but when did MLB hats get to be $40?  http://shop.mlb.com/product/index.jsp?productId=4056884&cp=1452770 .  I must be getting old.

Supply and demand.  As soon as Rap Stars start wearing your gear, then expect the price jump soon after.

I didn't think they looked too bad on the good guys, but some of the others looked bad, particularly the Blue Jays.  Do they even have Memorial Day in Canada?

Seriously; do those pigfuckers even have a military?  Or anything to be proud of?  No.
