Giving up even the pretense of a "neutral" site:
« on: May 11, 2010, 03:03:43 pm »
While MLB could stick its fingers in its ears and cry that Miller Park was a "neutral" site to make up the Hurricane Ike games, they aren't even bothering to make that argument for the Blue Jays.

The G20 summit in Toronto will displace the Blue Jays-Phillies series scheduled to happen at the Rogers Center Centre, right next door to Convention Centre which is hosting the summit.

Instead of moving to a "neutral" site, they will play all three games at Citizen's Bank Park with the Jays as the "home" team and the teams will use a DH.

This is Horseshit.  Why don't the switch series or something.  Didnt they know about the summit before the scheduling took place.

Bring that shit to Houston, we can accommodate. The Astros will be in Dallas that weekend.... MLB owes us a few games.

I don't understand how MLB didn't plan for this ahead of time. Am I just ignorant RE the scheduling of the G20 summit?

If I understand it correctly, the problem isn't that Rogers Center was booked for that timeframe, rather given the proximity of the G20 to the stadium and the security measures being implemented, that folks felt like it would be too difficult to get fans to and from the stadium.  That said, yes, they should have been able to figure out that it was a problem well before they did.

And yes, home games in Philly for the Jays is a crock of shit.  FWIW though, I'd imagine there'll be a lot more tazings in Toronto that weekend (though the tally may be closer than one would think...).
In the end, my dissolution with the game of baseball will not be a result of any loss of love for the game, rather from the realization that I can no longer bear the anger its supposed stewards cause to be built up in my soul. -Lee (01/08/2013)

While it certainly is horse shit, like most things, it comes down to money. They have the best chance of selling the most tickets by playing the games in Philly than anywhere else. It's not fair, but it's the most profitable. Frankly, I would've liked to see the games played in Montreal, but even the Citizens of Montreal might disagree with me on that one.

And I'm not sure how well they could've anticipated this problem. The venue is available. I think it is the city of Toronto that isn't allowing the games to be played there. MLB tried to fight to keep them there. I don't think they anticipated a problem, even if they knew about the G20 Summit in plenty of time.

They could have played in Buffalo to throw a bone to the southern Ontario fans.

Is Toronto going to get the home gate? That might make it worthwhile.

I believe the Phillies' expenses come off the top, but the Blue Jays get the profits.  You're probably right, that would be worthwhile.
