Astros vs. Madres 5/9/10
« on: May 09, 2010, 01:13:13 pm »
Mother's Day Special....

Top of the 1st:

Gwynn leads off with a single
Gwynn steals 2B
Venable KS, 1 out
Headley flies out to LF, 2 out
Brownie mentions that an Astros starter does not have a win since April 25th.
Hairston KS, inning over.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

Nice double by Lance!

Too bad he walked into the tagout.

Hundley KS, 2 out

6 batters and 4 K's for Roy.

He got called for licking his fingers and not wiping them off before he touched the ball. J. Hairston got an automatic ball. I've never seen that before, so that was... interesting.

Bottom of the 2nd:

Pence singles to RF
Feliz flies out F9 on a diving catch, 1 out
Manzella grounds into FC, Pence out 4-6, 2 out

Oswalt grounds out 4-3, inning over.

Astros now have 3 singles and a double in the first two innings, but haven't had a guy to reach 3B

No, and apparently they didn't play the 4th inning, cause they're saying it's the 5th.

Top of the 5th (God only knows what happened in the 4th)

Stairs with an infield single
Hundley walks
Hairston grounds out 4-3, Stairs to 3B, Hundley to 2B, 1 out
Zawadzki pops out F5, 2 out
Q and HP umpire get into it..Millsie out to argue
Stauffer, the middle reliever on an emergency start, doubles to LF after Mills stalls the game for 5 minutes, Stairs scores, Hundley scores
Gwynn singles up the middle, Stauffer scores
Venable grounds out 1-3, inning over

Astros 0  Padres 3

What. In. The. Hell. Why did he even get tossed? The Mr. thinks that Marquez must've told Mills not to come out of the dugout again in the middle of all that Q stuff, and when he started coming out, Marquez whacked him.

It is really unfortunate that he's the HPU today.

A little rally PBP for the 9th.

Bell in, Lee up.  Grounders to Hairston at SS, airmails the throw to 1B, Caballo safe and advances to 2B.  Matsui in to pinch run.  0 out, Kaz on 2B.

Ever since they hit those homers, they've just been carrying themselves differently, with more confidence. On those two plays in the top of the 9th they looked like they just expected to make the play.

Lindstrom throughs a scoreless T10.  On to B10.

Webb (RHP) on the bump for the Friars facing Q.

Ball low, 1-0. Swinging strike, 1-1. Soft grounder to Eckstein at 2B. 1 out, Sullivan in to PH for Lindstom.

Sullivan takes strike 1, and then bounces the next pitch back to the pitcher. 2 outs, none on, Bourn up.

Bourns takes the count 2-2, then strikes out swinging.  Rally PBP mojo done. On to the 11th.

I wasn't on the phone, was I? Did they catch me on the phone waving to the person I was talking to on the phone? I would hate to live down to the stereotype of my diamond club brethren.

I think you were picking your nose.  I'm not sure if it was a "pick", strictly speaking, but it sure looked like there was penetration.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.
