Did we ever learn what the beef was between Bourn and Penny last night?

From StL Post Dispatch LINK (via Astros County): “I’m a competitor, and when you’ve got guys fouling the ball off and acting like they should have hit it out of the park, I was just, ‘Be respectful. Take your at-bat. You shouldn’t hit everything out of the park. You don’t hit many home runs.’” - Penny

Bottom 3: Norris

Freese: struck out swinging on a 94mph fastball low and away.  1 out.

Lohse: Doubles into right center on 2-2 pitch. 1 out, P on 2B.

Schumaker: Lined 0-2 pitch to 1B.  2 outs, runner on 2B.

Ludwick: Soft liner to short center.  Bourn bobbles the 1-hopper but Lohse half-assing it to 3B and doesn't score on the bobble.  2 outs, runners at the corners.

Pujols:  Pujols chases one low and away for the K (0-2 pitch).  3 outs

Brown trivia: Who did Jackie Robinson once give a glove to to play SS? Bob Aspromonte(sp).  Came up and had an 'outfielders glove' and Robinson said 'that glove is too big, take this one'

Bud Norris Ks Assjols swinging!

Caught a break in that inning. Lohse doubled, then Shumacher lined out, followed by a Ludwick liner to CF that Bourn let fall in front of him then dropped. Lohse wasn't running hard so he had to stop at third when he otherwise would've scored.

Norris might be a little rattled by that error. Falls behind 2-0 to Molina and walks him on five pitches.

Usually Carlos only takes this much off the table at a buffet.  He's killing the Astros so far this season.

Norris has to pitch through the error.

Norris might be a little rattled by that error. Falls behind 2-0 to Molina and walks him on five pitches.

well, that's a lousy excuse. errors are part of the game, and a pitcher must work through them.

If only that advice had been headed prior to this game.

Lopez: slices the 1-2 pitch just foul in the LF corner, missed low, lazy fly towards LF line, Carlos drops an easy out.....  2 outs, runner on 1B.

Molina: walks on 3-1 pitch, Bud seems to have let Lee's Gaffe get to him.  Arnsberg to the mound to chat.  2 outs, runners on 1B and 2B.

Freese: ball (1-0), foul (1-1), up and in (2-1), ball high (3-1), RBI single to left, runners on 1B and 2B.  HOU 2, STL 1

And that's why Pujols is the best hitter in the game. He fell behind 0-2 on some very nice pitches from Norris, fouled off a couple to stay alive, then watched a very close pitch at the knees go by to load the count full. Boom, double to the gap.

Schumaker: 0-2 tapper to Kepp at SS. 1 out.

Ludwick: struck out looking on 1-1 pitch (#9, JD says he's just carving that outside corner to both RHB and LHB).  2 outs.

Pujols: 2-2 pitch nice FB up but Pujols just gets a piece of it, 2-2 pitch just low, doubles to the wall in left center.

Holliday: (Sampson getting loose in the pen, Bud at 100 pitches).  Broken bat grounder on 2-2 pitch, Feliz backhands ond throws to Norris for the out.  3 outs.

I dunno if other announcers do this, but I really hate it when DoRay start their call like the batter hit a double, then they change in midsentence to.."but just foul," and then discuss at length what would have happened if the ball was fair (someone would have scored, etc). Don't fake me out like that!

Bourn: grounder into right (SBB w/ 7 game hitting streak). 0 out, speed on 1B.

Keppinger: takes 2 strikes, doesn't bite on the low 0-2 pitch, throw over x 2, just missed another double foul just off bag at 3B, ball, throw over x 2, grounder back to Lohse for the 1-6-3 DP.  2 outs.

Feliz: groundout to ss. 3 outs.

With all the groundouts the Astros hit, it made me wonder what team has the most errors.  That is probably the team the Astros need to play.

That's a heckuva 1-1 pitch!

Bugs Bunny once struck out the side on a single pitch. True story.

Unsigned due to some rumors that he was occasionally seen in drag.

Lohse has faced the minimum in every inning other than the third.

Astos with only a single (no walks) since the third...

I know what you mean..."There's a LONG FLY BALL caught at the wall, but boy THAT WOULD HAVE PLATED TWO RUNS!!!"  No shit.  They have Worrell Syndrome, they assume this is the first baseball game that anyone has ever seen.

Yeah, the cadence pisses me off.  The announcer already knows it's foul-when he acts excited as if it's fair, he's setting up the listener for disappointment.  And then he rubs our face in it more by emphasizing how great it would have been...

But fuck all that!  The Astros are finally scoring runs!  It's a hap-hap-happy b***ring day!

I must be hallucinating. I just got home, turned on the game, and the Astros are leading 5-1 in the bottom of the 9th.

Bottom 9: Lindstrom on the Hill for Lyon

JD: They say its not a save situation, but at 0-8...

Lopez: struck out swinging (K #12 for Astros pitching today)

LHC Brian Anderson (PH for Molina): flies out to RF on first pitch.

Freese (1-3, RBI): count goes full and then singles to shallow right.  2 outs, runner at 1B.

Nick Stavinoha (PH for Motte): Feliz catches it in foul territory. 3 outs.

ASTROS WIN, ASTROS WIN, ASTROS WIN!!!

Ballgame: HOU 5, STL 1
In the end, my dissolution with the game of baseball will not be a result of any loss of love for the game, rather from the realization that I can no longer bear the anger its supposed stewards cause to be built up in my soul. -Lee (01/08/2013)

I decided to take 150, because I just don't think it's realistic to think that they will win every single game from here on out.

Good point.  I guess my over eager homerism got out of control at 154.  Thanks for talking me down.

Are you suggesting that marshmallows may be the key ingredient in 2010?
