Tied at 7 in the 8th inning. Pitching has been spotty, and Big Fat Joe West has been inconsistent with his strike zone as usual.

Is Morgan's craziness making Miller restate the obvious until it's insufferable? I don't remember him saying the same thing over and over and over and over...

That's my take. I love Miller, and I listen to him broadcast Giants' games. He's the consummate professional. Morgan, on the other hand, is a HOF blowhard.

I can't tell if he's trying to drown out Morgan's bullshit or if he's attempting to drive some sense into his brain. Either approach is probably doomed.

BoSox come back from a four run deficit to beat the Yankmees 9-7 in their home opener. Chan Ho Park sucks and took the loss. It's hard to believe that he actually made the Yankmee roster.

On the radio broadcast I caught, they were talking about how Park as a reliever with the Phils didn't give up a home run all year. Then, first game as a Yank, boom, home run (by Pedroia?) to tie the game. Classic.

How can anyone watch AL baseball for 162+ games a year?

God, this shit is unwatchable.  Why don't they just go to coach-pitch or use a fucking machine?

Also, Yankees suck; fire Girardi.

But the long ball has nevertheless been a bug-a-boo for Park in his career-221 in 1921.1 IP through last season.

On the TV broadcast, Hershiser commented about the solid starting pitching, and how frustrating it is to watch your bullpen "wet the bed." I got a kick outta that. Johnny and Joe commented that it should be added to the Official Baseball Lexicon.

His dive-and-throw-em-out on a ball hit up the middle to save Buchholz' no-hitter a couple years ago is still one of the best "how the hell did he DO that?!?" plays I've seen. (well behind THE Bruntlett/Everett DP, of course).

I watched the game. neither starter was particularly sharp, notwithstanding Hershiser's comment. Of course, having that assshole Joe West behind the plate with his floating strike zone didn't help any pitcher last night. I can't believe that West and the Angel of Death are on the same umpiring crew.

Between the style of AL baseball and Joe Morgan's involvement I literally did not turn the TV on all evening.

I don't know, dude, you know, Yankees - Red Sox pre-opening day isn't baseball to me, it's Disney bullshit. I was pleased to note that the Yankees lost, but that's about the size of it. After seeing what I saw of Francona with respect to Mills this spring any distaste I had for the Sox has been replaced with cheerful ambivalence. I'd love to see the Rays have everything break their way and take the division.

I didn't like West when I was out drinking with him years ago. I thought that I might warm up to him like I did with Frank Pulli but didn't. Of course, it could have been, and probably was, my fault due to excessive drinking. However, a word to the wise: never, ever try to outdrink an MLB umpire. Everyone that I ever drank with, and there were several, including some guys who were in AAA but who are now in the Show (Phil Cuzzi comes to mind), could drink me under the table, and that was saying something after eight years of LSU drinking as my backdrop education.

I think they increased the drinking at LSU; I saw an article over the weekend that said they're going to make the football field purple.

I don't recall Palermo ever being in a crew with Greg Bonin, who was my umpire friend. But Greg retired due to family business and health issues back in 2000. He broke with the umpire union, thinking Richie Philips was an idiot who was misleading them. Greg was right. Almost none of the old umps got their jobs back. Joe West was an exception.

Yup; that's pretty obvious to anybody who isn't a deluded Yankee fan. I just think it will be fun to see the gradual dawning of reality on the collective Yankee consciousness.

Gascan is a portsider who has a slider and a slightly faster heater that has more life than Joba's, which comes in pretty flat when I've seen it. I don't see much in the way of baseball similarities. However, you're spot on with respect to non-baseball similarities, although the New York media or the Yankmees' PR Dept. seems to protect Joba better. Gascan would just occasionally but regularly erupt in public stupidity.

At the risk of sounding cliche, I think Wagner has a tad more class and respect for the game, at least on the field. Chamberlain acts like a complete assclown on the mound.
