For all the Buckaroo Banzai lovers out there
« on: March 31, 2010, 08:59:51 pm »
The New Beverly Cinema had a screening of the film March 29 and had a Q&A with Peter Weller before the movie. A recap of the event is here and video of the very entertaining Q&A is here. Enjoy.
I'm in love with rock and roll and I'll be out all night.

At least 3 or 4. Individuals, not dozens.

I have a friend who is a fiend for this movie, so there are at least maybe 4: the 3 in the article, and my friend Steve.
I'm as big a fan as the next guy of dumb movies, bad movies, etc, but BB is down on the level of Howard the Duck and Leonard Part VI--just bad.

You are astonishingly, jaw-droppingly wrong on this one. It is a wonderful, enduring film that has a great cult following. The New Beverly was sold out, and I'm sure that if it played here it would do very well at any of the Alamo Drafthouses. It's not for everybody, to be sure, but that movie is eminently quoteable and a whole lot of fun.

It was heavily advertised in comic books in my youth, so there are lots of nerds my age that like it.  My grad school roommate claimed it inspired him to study physics (that and  Ghostbusters).

It reminds of the crappy DC comic books from the seventies that were so serious, but completely absurd.

Not my planet, monkey-boy.
I remember all the good times me 'n Miller enjoyed
Up and down the M1 in some luminous yo-yo toy
But the future has to change - and to change I've got to destroy
Oh look out Lennon here I come - land ahoy-hoy-hoy

We should update our roster.

always loved it but I am disconceted to hear you compare it to a comic book. A brave documentary of its caliber deserves better.

Recently had a one-night only showing at a local cinema here in Dallas.  Packed with 98 percent guys and the two percent females in the audience seemed to have been dragged along.  Embarrassing that we all had memorized the dialogue.  For one night we monkeyboys reveled together.

Why was Jeff Goldblum in a cowboy suit, again?  My memory fades.
"(512) ybbodeus looks just as creepy in HD as in person."   That is a problem, and we are working on it.

Maybe it was because the S&M gimp suit that Mr. Goldblum first wore didn't fit in with the color scheme chosen for the other actors.

I don't think Buckaroo Banzai is best approached with "why." like the platypus, just be glad it exists at all.
