Well, it's better than "Super Bowl Shuffle"...
« on: January 22, 2010, 02:39:04 pm »
The Purple One has penned a new fight song about his hometown Vikes.  It's surprisingly not bad, although I hope the Vikes fall hard to Nawlins this Sunday.

Oh, I'm for the Saints this weekend.  No doubt.

But there's something horribly wrong with the world when I'm firmly behind the Jest in the other game.  W...T...F?

I'm rooting for the Jets, if only to get another installment of the KSK version of Rex Ryan.  I would charge down the very throat of hell for that flabby nicknamin' sumbitch.

I just think it would be deliciously ironic for the Colts to be eliminated by the team that they allowed into the playoffs by their own lax play.  If that happens, will Caldwell get raked over the coals?

Is it Manning hatred causing you folks to root against the Colts, or something else?

No big deal, just curious. My household is literally in pro football limbo. Mr. 94CG and I grew up Oilers fans; don't dislike but couldn't really get into the Texans; and don't dislike but can't really get into the Cowboy Religion That Overtakes The Entire Dallas-Fort Worth Area. Son #1 is a Colts fan, largely because of Manning, and we paid some attention to the Eagles with interest because of Kevin Kolb. And we've all been rooting for the Ain'ts all season because it's nice to see them do so well.

Our battle lines are much more clearly drawn in college football and professional baseball sand.
And, by the way, f*** off. --Mr. Happy, with a tip of the cap to JimR

Surprised the contrarians haven't pounced on this jets-colts karma thing to refute the concept of lax play.

Then there's the irrelevant super bowl 3 angle, sure to fire up the espn clowns, if not all the other Talking Shows.

Agreed. Well, that and the fact that I'd rather box Superman than root for the Colts.

Not for me.  I think Manning is a great QB and would love to have him leading the Texans.  I just can't stand the Colts. And I hate the Jets.  I just want them to beat the crap outta each other so that whoever goes to the Superbowl loses to the NFC team.  Either NFC team, I don't really care.

That window above the end zone there in LOS? For me it gives the place a "Hoosiers" look, like the old Butler arena they used to film that movie.

As for Prince's little song, nothing replaces the imagery of a Bills fan club meeting featuring Marv Levy singing the "Go, Bills" ballad he wrote.

Is Namath on the sidelines?

Borderline crazy game right now. 3 ring circus ball played splendidly by the Jets. Surprised the Colts got a td, but those were just two great plays, bang and then bang--especially the first pass.

I don't hate Manning.  I hate the Colts jaking it, which effectively knocked the Texans out of the playoffs.  The only pro football team I care about is the Texans.  I am very happy for all my New Orleans friends, though.

The Colts were in a position to play who they wanted and how.  You need to be mad at your team not the Colts.

The issue of the Colts not going for a perfect season is a separate issue to me.

The Texans lost control of their own destiny by blowing a bunch of games, including a pair against the Colts.  Of course,  I am disappointed in the Texans (although mostly in their coach and kicker) but that doesn't preclude me from being pissed at the Colts for handing the Jets a playoff berth.   I'm sure you'd be totally serene if the Cubs rested all their starters in the last week of the season, allowing the Braves to overtake the Astros and get into the playoffs.

It's the same argument.  The Astros have to take care of their business, they can't depend on others to do it for them.

The Colts didn't hand the Jets anything.  The Jets earned it by BEATING THE TEXANS STRAIGHT UP!  The fact that the two teams met head to head, and the Jets kicked the living shit out the Texans, seems to conveniently escape the infantile whining about some *other* team not doing the job the Texans couldn't do themselves.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

Don't be fatuous.  Everybody knows that the games at the beginning of the season don't count as much as the games at the end of the season.

Removing Peyton from a game, one that is still undecided, diminished the Colts likelihood of winning.  However, it didn't "gift" the game to the Jets.  That said, I understand the sentiment and the expression, as for all practical purposes the Colts success rides in strong parallel to Peyton's success, no matter how much their defense has improved.

These statements seem contradictory.

I don't see how anyone could argue that the Colts were actively trying to win without playing Peyton Manning.  It's disingenuous and wrong.  I dislike, both in general and in this specific example, teams eschewing competition.  I despise the paranoid fear of injury runs through all major sports.  Football teams mailing it in the last couple of weeks of the season, NBA teams taking the last month of the season off, coddled young pitchers that can't make it through the 6th inning, &a.  All of these factors combine to make sports less exciting to watch.  I understand why they do it, but I don't have to like it.
