Rudy Jaramillo

Increasingly I get the impression Jaramillo is in danger of losing his job as Rangers hitting coach. This is a guy that Bagwell raves about from his days with the Astros. The unhappiness seems to stem from the "approach" many of the Rangers hitters take to the plate, i.e., situational hitting.

I'm not following.  Jaramillo teaches a situational hitting approach and the Rangers do not like this?  Really?

Perhaps he could straighten out the Giles brothers' hitting problems.

No. The Rangers hitters are lacking in the discipline of situational hitting. Whether Rudy stresses this I do not know.

BTW, on the subject of the Rangers. Pitching Coach Mike Maddux recently said the staff's lower ERA this year was entirely due to a better defensive team. That struck me as quite a statement from a Pitching Coach deflecting any credit for improvement. One of the changes they made was moving Michael Young to third to allow room for the exciting Elvis Andrus at SS.

Goose Gossage was in town recently and said he thought Nolan Ryan totally had the Rangers on the right track with his emphasis on Starting Pitchers going deeper in games. (They threw about 80 more innings this year).

I bring up this Rangers news because situational hitting, pitch count and defensive have been much discussed here in regards to the Astros.

When asked to comment on his brother's case, Brian Giles had the following response:

Brian Giles: Git some! Git some! Git some, yeah, yeah, yeah! Anyone who runs, is a pussy. Anyone who stands still, is a well-disciplined pussy! You guys oughta do a story about me sometime!

10News.com: Why should we do a story about you?

Brian Giles: 'Cuz I'm so fuckin' good! I done smacked me 157 skinny little bitches. Plus 50 water buffalo too! Them's all confirmed!

10News.com: Any women or children?

Brian Giles: Sometimes!

10News.com: How can you hit women and children?

Brian Giles: Easy! Ya just don't lead 'em so much! Ain't baseball hell?

Jaramillo out in Texas:

I guess it doesn't really matter since Berry has been announced as returning.

He won't be unemployed long. Many consider him baseball's best hitting coach.

The Rangers MLB.com site is reporting Jaramillo declined an offer to return and that the Astros and Cubs were two clubs that may have interest. The Cubs are looking for a hitting coach recently letting theirs go and Jaramillo apparantly has a relationship with Piniella.

Denny Walling is conjectured to be among a pool of candidates for the Rangers hitting coach job now that Jaramillo is out. BTW, Rudy's salary on the north-side of Chicago is reported to be $800,000.

Prediction: Sweet Lou will kill AND eat Bradley sometime in 2010. Sometime between April and October.
