Hampton to miss next season
« on: September 15, 2009, 12:50:47 pm »
The Houston Astros say starting pitcher Mike Hampton will miss next season after undergoing surgery on his left shoulder.

A statement issued by the Astros on Tuesday say surgeons at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York repaired a full left rotator cuff tear in Hampton's pitching shoulder. Dr. David Altchek, the New York Mets' medical director, also repaired partial damage to the labrum in the shoulder.

A "full left rotator cuff tear" and "partial damage to the labrum" in his pitching shoulder? Wow.
In the end, my dissolution with the game of baseball will not be a result of any loss of love for the game, rather from the realization that I can no longer bear the anger its supposed stewards cause to be built up in my soul. -Lee (01/08/2013)

And to think that we put off DL'ing him as long as possible. I guess the trainers are not capable of diagnosing a torn rotator cuff. So that is two shoulders procedures down, and two knee operations to go for Hampton..

Astros manager Cecil Cooper said he had spoken with Hampton, and fully expects him to be back for his next turn in the rotation.

This actually makes me have a bit more respect for the man.  Can you imagine how much it hurt him to go out and start 21 games?
Another trenchant comment by a jealous lesser intellect.

I have zero doubts as to Mike Hampton's competitiveness, physical toughness, or mental tenacity.

Can you imagine how much everything is going to hurt him in a few years? Mike really, really, really needs to consider retiring now.

More astonishing news:

"Hampton to pitch part of the 2011 season.  Maybe."

He'll be 39 if/when he comes back. I don't think it takes much imagination to figure out how effective he'll be.

I hear Hampton once got busy in the Shed's bathroom...

(Picturing him with the Graucho glasses and that hat on the mound is pretty amusing)
