Lemme get this straight

Tommy Manzella was called up because he is the shortstop of the future (or maybe not).  Cooper went to Miguel Tejada, told him that Manzella would get plenty of playing time at short so Miggy needed to accept that.  And so far, Manzella is buried on the bench and Tejada is still playing.

Nice.

with Blum and Kep down, I sure would like to see Miggy slip over to 3rd and Manzella play ss. I guess we are seeing the natural progression of Coop lobbying for Johnson to come up.

Jason Smith agrees
There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

I think Coop is enamored with what he perceives as Johnson's offensive potential.  Manzella, not so much.

Defense is fine but you've got to tear the cover off the ball, and if you can't, well.....

I've missed it, too, but the comments about Manzella (above) made me think it entered someone's mind

I believe Cooper said that he and Miggy had talked about it.  He wasn't committal about exactly what they talked about.

Cooper: "Miguel, I was wondering... ahum.... Tommy Manzella, AAA MVP, Shortstop... he's going to get called up and..."
Tejada: "No!"
Cooper: "Okay, thank you sir"

And, of course,

Cooper: "Sorry, Geoff... he said no."
I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

It's everybody's favorite game... how many errors can Jon Heyman make in one paragraph?

Quote
3. Cecil Cooper, Astros. The Astros' front office usually does very little, but it still manages to expect a lot. There were rumors of Cooper's imminent demise early in the year, and the team is doing about the same now as it was then (just below .500). The Astros are doing the right thing by playing their few prospects, but that probably won't help Cooper get to .500.

I once jokingly e-mailed Jon Heyman and very politely asked him to stop writing about the Astros, since his disdain for the team was so obvious. I argued it would make him happy, since he could quit writing about a team he didn't like, and Astros fans happy, since we wouldn't have to read his snarky opinions about our beloved team. He agreed.

I really wish he would have been serious.
