From the wrap on Astros.com:

Quote
"As far as Wandy, I thought he was terrific again," Houston manager Cecil Cooper said. "Just a little bit of shoulder fatigue, so we thought it was best to take him out. I thought he was sharp, he threw the ball well and had a good breaking ball tonight. He was his usual self. He was efficient and could have gone back out, but he said he was a little fatigued in the arm, and we decided to take him out."

Rodriguez said he told pitching coach Dewey Robinson he didn't want to come back out and pitch the eighth inning because he didn't have zip on his fastball.

"I said, 'No,' because I was tired," Rodriguez said. "I felt my arm was strong. I didn't feel sore. I threw a lot of breaking balls all game, but the last inning I threw more. When I threw my fastball, I didn't have the pop on it."
I'm in love with rock and roll and I'll be out all night.

Sometimes 85 pitches is all you have on a given day. There's no magic number, high or low.

No, no, no, he was obviously pulled because Cooper is an idiot.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

I don't know that this move proves Coop isn't an idiot.  This is following the "even a blind squirrel eventually finds a nut" thought process.

It doesn't prove anything.  It was more of a comment about the thought process of most.

I am so jaded on Cooper that he could correctly predict an entire hurricane season, and I would find fault.

Well, many would find a way to blame Coop as the *cause* of the hurricanes.

That one time when Cooper told Selig to tell McLane to convince Garner that Cooper would be a good bench coach, and subsequently a good interim, then permanent manager. That was awesome.

Oh yeah, Coop advised Digital Research against cutting a OS development deal with IBM.

OK, now you're just being silly.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.
