Georgians of Atlanta v. Lone Stars of Houston, 9/8/2009
« on: September 08, 2009, 07:55:51 pm »
Astros down 0-1, end of 3. Paulino wild the first two innings, but limits the damage to a LaRoche solo HR. Carlos Lee singled for the only hit so far. I think.

The upcoming Valverde bobblehead doll looks absolutely nothing like Jose Valverde, beyond having the correct number of limbs and Astros uniform.

I can't really do PBP but I can try to update here and there for a bit.

That's a good one.....I wonder why they can't make the figurines look more like the guy they are supposed to be. I mean, I had a Superman figurine and it pretty much looked like the DC comic character.

Speaking of Valverde, has any Houston reliever had 2 consecutive seasons as good as he has? He throws a lot of pitches and allows a lot of traffic but he seldom seems to blow a save.

Top 6, Astros down 0-2. McLouth hit a solo HR amidst a nice stretch where Felipe has settled down and gotten some quick outs.

Blum had the Astros' 2nd hit, but otherwise nothing doing for the offense tonight.

Paulino pulled for Michaels the PH to lead off the 6th. 6 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 6 K for Felipe. 88 pitches/53 strikes.

Michaels on 2nd , Bourn on 1st.  No out. Matsui at the plate.

This is the chance, gotta take it.

Lee is the third walk of the inning. Bases loaded, two out, Miggy's up.

Miggy slaps it back to the box, Vasquez deflects it, and Larry throws Tejada out at first. 2-0 Braves through six.

I don't know if he slipped coming out of the box or not but not really all that close, even with the deflection. Chipper still has an arm.

I went backed and watched.  That was just an amazing play by Jones.  He must have been anticipating a possible deflection to be that far over towards SS with a hit up the middle.  Credit to him

Maysonet sac bunts the runners to 2B and 3B and Erstad is hitting for the pitcher. One out.

...and that was a total fucking waste as Erstad strikes out on a change away. Two outs now, Bourn up.

Christ. Bourn strikes out too. The difference between Coop and Cox couldn't be more clear - Cox left an obviously struggling Vasquez in with the lead run at the plate and no outs. Coop would be on pitcher #3 or 4 at the end of the inning.

Bleh. Bottom of the 8th is highlighted by Puma's single off the LF wall and lowlighted by Lee's DP grounder to end the inning.

Gracias, Fred Loya!

Fulchino gets through the 9th without giving up a run and it's 2-0 Braves going to the bottom of the 9th.

Miggy leads off with a triple that just sneaks past McLouth's glove at the base of Tal's Hill.
