Tejada tipping pitches. Or not. Maybe.
« on: August 30, 2009, 03:52:54 pm »
A rambling NYT article full of suspicion and innuendo accuses him of doing so.  The article purports to describe "[a] series of events on the field led several players to believe that the star shortstop Miguel Tejada had been helping friends on opposing teams by tipping off pitches and by allowing balls they hit to get past him occasionally during games with lopsided scores" but fails to do so with any particularity.

I've got to say that I agree with Deadspin's take on the article.  It seems like a baseball boogeyman in that nobody has any actual knowledge of the pitch tipping, but generally agrees that "it happens."

What a crock of shit.

No kidding, I just about had this and a lot of other crap posted on the front page when Bench had the nerve to start a thread on it...  Bastard! [/sarc]

Oh, you mean the NYT story?  Agreed.  Must've been a really slow 'news' weekend in New York and in Austin...

ETA [/sarc], lest someones sarcmeter was on the blink...

In the end, my dissolution with the game of baseball will not be a result of any loss of love for the game, rather from the realization that I can no longer bear the anger its supposed stewards cause to be built up in my soul. -Lee (01/08/2013)

Yeah, I can't figure out the timing behind Bohls' story, but thinking that someone somewhere has an agenda and it's being served by Kirk Bohls is just me overthinking again.

Thanks for the Update on the front page. That NYT article and the Deadspin mentions of Al Dark remind me of something that happened to me in Little League but it's best left for another time.

What could possibly be served by bringing up a non-story about a player 2500 miles away and what someone imagined as a problem eight years ago?

because ARod was accused of the same thing this year.

Scott Hatteberg is quoted in Moneyball saying that A-Rod cheats by looking back to see where the catcher is set up before each pitch.

They used to say that about Jay Alou too. The catcher would wait until he'd finished with his neck gyrations before they'd call the pitch.

It seems kind of chicken shit but don't see how that is cheating, one could be fooled by such antics, one could be put at a disadvantage. Don't get me wrong, I hate the SOB but I don't think there is a rule against the batter looking about the field and checking out the defense. If there is a rule, I apologize for my ignorance.
