No Trivia Today
« on: August 23, 2009, 09:06:33 am »
Sorry folks.  After trying for too long and not succeeding, my wife and I are seperating.  She and the kids are moving to Houston today and it's my last day to spend with my son for a while.  I can live without her but being apart from him is ripping my heart apart.  This thread should probably be in the Beer and Queso but I didn't want anyone waiting around for me.  I'll be back next Sunday and it should be a good one since I have nothing to do all week but research.

Sorry to hear this.  Hang in there.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

Having been a veteran of two divorces, both of which were my fault, my only pieces of advice are (1) be easy on yourself for a while-this is a major change and is very stressful and (2) never speak ill of the mom to the children. I wish that someone had given me this advice.

So sorry, Dale. I agree totally with Mr. Happy. Take the high road, and remember that your son loves his mother. Come see me.

Always sorry to hear of this sort of thing, regardless of the details.

I will say, having gone through it as a kid, the bast thing the parents can ever do for thir children is not inject their personal feelings into the child's perception of the other parent.  That can cause damage that never gets completely repaired.

Meantime, take care of yourself, and do what you need to, to get free.

My heartfelt best wishes to you.  As someone who's recently been through this (albeit, luckily, sans offspring), I can tell you that it's a roller coaster of emotions, but it does get better.  Feel free to PM me if you need to chat.

Um, I think you Cabrera'd yourself there, Mr. Happy. In all seriousness, though, it is excellent and very important advice. I was already 15 when my parents split up, but I am really glad that neither parent spoke badly of the other in front of me and especially my brother, who was just 7 at the time.
