Aug 11, 2009: Same lineup used on consecutive days.  Mark it down.

Roy needs to be the Stopper today.

Pence got lucky. Brownie called it an excellent play. JD got it right and said that Pence was fooled by the ball.

It's painful to watch someone with that much talent who doesn't seem to be developing, especially when you see the strides Bourn has made this year as comparison.

Sliding head-first into second as Pudge's hit went out into RCF. Then he stood on second with his clueless look before finally figuring things out and heading to third. He probably couldn't hear the crack of the bat because of the crowd noise.

Did you see Pudge screaming at him when he was on 2B? I distinctly read the word "bullshit" on his lips.

A race between Carlos and a Clydesdale, I'd take the Clydesdale.  And give Carlos a 20 yard head start.

Actually, I would go with "El Tractor" (pronounced "Trac-tore"), which of course would make Oswalt happy too.

Looked like a bad route to the ball but it could've been cued and had some nasty spin on it too. Can't tell from here.

By the way, prior to the inning McTaggart tweeted:

Astros have not blow a five-run lead this year. Lead 7-2 now.

Next tweet:

Bases loaded and no outs for Marlins. Roy needs to limit damage here.

Assclown...

Pence chased a flare to shallow RF and veered hard to his left at the last second and dove for it, still missed it by several feet but it was shallow enough to only be a single. Looked like a bad route to the ball.

It was another of his great circle routes. Unfortunately, he's playing on a plane, not a sphere.

Nick Johnson crushes a ground rule double to CF after the ump misses calling strike 3 on a pitch closer than any that Blum took in the last AB. Fucker.

I agree. If he'd only do as consistent a job with the K zone.

Hell of a bare handed play by Miggy there.  The ball looked like it was rolling down his wrist into his hand as he cocked back to throw

Geoff Blum may be this team's MVP, relative to expectations.

Single to RF, 8-8.  Kata to PR for El Tractore at 2b.

he could still put Erstad in the outfield, Blum on 1B and Kepp on 3B.  I don't mind not switching out Pence, as they might need a big fly later and Lee was already gone.

I'm not sure he didn't beat the tag. The throw was great and beat the runner by ten feet, but it looked like Pudge was late getting the tag down.

Who cares, let's score some runs.

He was safe in my judgment.

Watching it in slo-mo on tivo, he was clearly safe. The ump almost always calls an out when the throw beats the runner by that much.

Pudge tries to avoid collisions and was expecting one, he got fooled when Hermida slid. You can bet Q would have been out front and planted.

He was pulling off everything that at-bat, so he foiled off the outside pitches and ultimately got burned by one up and middle-in.

Great game, Coop.

Here is my rendention of Cooper's presser in a few minutes:

"Well, when you get up 7-2 and your ACE in on the mound, you don't expect you're going to lose.  We let this one get away, Roy wasn't sharp and we needed him, we were a little short in the pen... he knows, we expect our ACE to hold a 7-2 lead.  This was the worse loss of the year."

Not excusing the shitty managing and even shittier pitching, but for fuck's sake, are there NO decent home plate umpires left? HP ump tonight couldn't have found the outside corner with a map and a flashlight.

It says a lot when a guy can drop his bat on strike 3 (that was 6 inches outside, which hasn't been and wasn't at any other point of a game a strike), turn around, and blatantly question the strike zone for a solid couple of minutes before the HP ump tell him that's enough. Dude either is completely clueless or knew he was sucking it up.

I think because Blum probably didn't question the strike call.  He questioned whether the umpire had been calling that all night.  "Hey, that has not been a strike all night long, now it is?"  "Yep"  "Okay, but why now, with me?  Did I do something to show you up or something?" "Nope" "Okay, so since it is a strike and I don't disagree, then I guess we can expect that to be a strike all the rest of the night?" "Yep"  "Okay, you have a good night sir..."  "thanks"

Or something like that.

woulda been much easier to just unbutton his jersey and show the ump his "Really??" tshirt.

Except for the part where Blum clearly said "that's not a strike" and then the umpire, after a few more exchanges said , "Okay, that's enough."
