Roy headed to the DL or is Brocail not coming back as expected?

Didn't say. It's supposed to be a postgame announcement, so I guess we'll know in an hour or so.

Brocail's still coming back; they're working on it.

Wesley Wright going to the hospital with a possible appendicitis (per Footer tweet).

I wonder what approach the team will take by friday afternoon with all the recent injuries.    Do they become more aggressive in talks to get pitching help for this season, or do they decide that it's better to not deal any prospects with so many key players sidelined due to injury.

Footer suspected that an infielder would be removed from the 25 man to make room for Norris, but that was before the Wesley appendicitis note.

A third option: if Oswalt's injury proves serious, do they consider going into "sell" mode? There's a lot of teams out there looking for infield and bullpen help, and I'm betting Tejada and Valverde could bring back big returns.

Turns out it was dehydration rather than appendicitis.  So, that's good news as it would seem he'll stay active.

You wanna hear some crazy talk?  I hope Norris is too good to send down, even after Oswalt returns (which hopefully is soon, cross fingers).  This rotation could use a shot in the arm.

Actually, Bazardo has 3 appearances out of the pen this year in which he pitched 8.2 innings w/ 2.08 ERA, while Norris has zero appearances out of the pen. Bazardo also has 2 complete games and 1 shutout / Norris neither.

I'm talking about Norris' AFL stint where he had scouts all a-twitter about his work out of the bullpen, causing many to speculate that he could eventually be a big-league closer. He also pitched out of the pen in major league spring training.

Odd to bring up a pitcher Wednesday then hold him out to start Sunday, especially with such a depleted 'pen at the moment.

Right, he's one fresh arm, but after the pen had to absorb 13 innings or so the last two nights (the reason an obviously gassed Wright left in there so long last night), seems like you'd want an extra arm if possible. I guess the plan is they'll use Norris in relief if needed, and if not start him Sunday.

You have to commit 100% to Norris on Sunday to be sure he's not going to pitch in RR from now until Sunday.  What is being said is that you *may* need him so keep him with the big club for now, figure out how much you're going to need him and go with it.  May as well bring him up now and let him get used to the major league settings and don't put pressure on him that he's starting.  I think this was a wise move myself, but then again, it's just my opinion.

5-0 down in the 1st.  Norris was due to start today in RR ... too bad they did not keep him on rotation.  He may still end up starting the second inning.  Then he would be on rotation again on Sunday.

I'd give him an inning or two just to get his feet wet if this game is a runaway game.  In fact, it would be a great idea to consider him for a 6th or 7th inning stint just to get him the exposure before he starts on Sunday.

Not unless we're going with a four-man rotation. Which might not be a bad idea, given Hampton's current worthlessness.

I agree, I was just responding to the post about Wade saying that the plan was to use him Sunday. In that case, you could still bring him along but not make the roster move official until you were going to use him, enabling you to keep the extra man on the roster.

I think they had no idea eggszactly how they were going to use/need Norris, as evidenced by the usage yesterday when Hampton basically blew up.  As it were, it was good to get him the experience and prepare him for a Monday start (I doubt he starts on Sunday).

Except Cooper actually still makes the decisions on turns in the rotation.  So none of us HAVE ANY IDEA.

If Roy starts Sunday, I wonder will Coop let Norris start for Hampton on Monday. Time for some moves here.

Maybe someone needs to take Ortiz' turn also.  On every hit in his last inning, he hit his spot.  It wasn't lack of command, he just looks overmatched.
