Wesley Wright about to take another ride on the HOU-RR shuttle?

Question: Who typically makes these decisions? Is it Wade, with input from Cooper and the staff? Follow-up, who makes the decisions about who's in the rotation and who's in the bullpen? Is that 100% up to Cooper, or does Wade have override power?

I don't know crap about evaluating pitchers and thus don't have a strong opinion on this particular move (Hampton, Ortiz, and Moehler have all pitched reasonably well of late, although I certainly understand the importance of getting your young pitcher MLB experience...), just curious how these types of decisions usually are arrived at.

Ok, I'll take a shot on this one.

As noted above, Hampton, Moeller and Ortiz have all pitched well recently. Last night Paulino came into the game out of the pen. I wonder if Paulino's going to be sent down in an effort to get him more experience coming out of the pen. Could this be insurance for Wade with the potential moving of Hawkins in the future?

Paulino should go over and talk to Michael Bourn before he leaves. Just so he'll know that this manager doesn't know how to handle young players.

Exactly. I bet this will be good for him and he'll come back a better pitcher. He can relax down there and work on whatever he needs to and not worry about being jerked out with a bad outing.

Being a middle reliever on a team is usually reserved for fringe guys or veterans. Cooper basically tossed the kid into a position that was never well suited for him. Paulino did get his chances to perform as a starter and did well (albeit inconsistently), but that came about because of Hampton's injury and other factors. However a young guy should never think "I wonder if that was good enough" (the proverbial look over your shoulder, seeing Cooper gaining on him). Pitching with that sort of nervousness and having to prepare for any time of job that they were willing to hand him (table scraps) is hard.

He wasn't suited for that sort of treatment, he isn't a veteran that can just shrug off a manager's quirkiness. A veteran will just say "I've got no control over anything other than when they hand me the ball, I need to be ready to pitch". A young guy functions differently and Cooper is not very aware of that very minor detail. BTW - this was how Dusty Baker handled young players and it was a disaster for young prospects in San Francisco and Chicago. Baker probably learned a little now that he has a new job in Cincy.

Lets not forget that Paulino started the season off in April with 3 good starts over which he posted a 2.55 ERA and was promptly demoted to the bullpen. Placed back in the rotation he had 3 starts in June in which he posted a 2.45 ERA. Then Cooper left him get beat up for 9 runs in 2 innings. Other then that 1st start in July it was the in and out of the rotation that destroyed him.

Her response does kind of demonstrate a mentality that disappoints me. I think most followers of this team are spoiled and expect shit to just always work out. Normally when you bring up a young player, they struggle. And they struggle mainly with consistency. The manager is supposed to temper that a bit, instead of getting all pissy whenever something doesn't go the way he wanted.

She was responding to my tweet (I'm Ragarm78 on twitter). I blame Cooper for totally mishandling Paulino. In my view, Paulino is going to be better off away from Cooper for awhile.

I read on another site the Express have the best AAA pitching in baseball, or at least at the top of the game. I just moved to Austin two weeks ago and haven't caught an Express game yet, but, is this true or just another forum member BS?

Read about 'em in the Round Rock Express thread in The Bus Ride Discussion Forum.

Starters Bazardo and Norris are PCL All Stars and are at the tops of the PCL in a couple of pitching categories. Trinadad was just promoted from Corpus after having a very good season there. Paulino is back down. I'd say starting pitching should be one of their strong points.

I keep getting emails from reunion.com telling me about all of the people who are looking for me.

Since I went to the Hebrew Academy of Houston (graduating class of 1986 was 1 -- me) I doubt that this person was in my class.

But I am going to start ordering the pills that will let me lose weight without dieting or exercising. I think there's some good science there.
