Ensberg calls CWS
« on: June 05, 2009, 10:46:33 am »
This is probably Cabrera material, but it's news to me, but "former Astros infielder Morgan Ensberg will call Clemson-Arizona State with Eric Collins" on one of the ESPN channels.

I will be interested to hear his comments about how well the youngsters work the count.

"Holy shit, Mozart. Get me off this fucking thing."

I agree.  He's knowledgeable, intelligent, articulate and personable.  Should be fun to listen to.

Plus, he's not Robin Ventura.  Which is a HUGE plus.

I think she was referring to his basball skills, Jim, not his baseball skills.

I think that Ensberg is well suited for this and will do a fine job. I wish him well. I just hope that he doesn't get stage fright and freeze up like he did at the plate so so many times.

Or maybe bassball?  You know, a fishing show... okay, nevermind.

Taken from the French 'bas' meaning 'low', she was actually referring to his difficulty in identifying sliders.

Ahh, very cool.  I always liked listening to him speak.  Funny, smart guy.

I will say, however, that my caffeine deprived brain caused me to initially mistake the thread title as Morgan calling the White Sox looking for a job.

Checked out the broadcast last night and thought Moberg did a really good job.  He was informative, somewhat funny and they sprinkled in a few Astros tidbits (World Series mention) to boot.  I'd take him over Do or Ray (can't remember which is the 'color' guy) any day.
Good job, Morgan!
Don't think twice, it's alright.

Ensberg during Az State/Clemson game: "If I was playing in 1977, I'd rock the bell bottoms on the field.  And I definitely wouldn't have the top, say, three buttons on my shirt buttoned."

I think it's time for me to go to bed.

No, it's more like, "Did I just hear that correctly?" and then I realize that I've been watching baseball for about 10 hours and I'm probably just hallucinating.

I watched a little of the Phillies/Dodgers game last night.  Morgan is truly awful.  To have him in the same booth as Miller is a real disservice to the game.

Except Miller was off last night. Howeverr, Joe Morgan was as bad as ever.

i listened to Morgan Ensberg last night. he was very good.

I thought he was pretty good too.  I like how he explained the difference, as a hitter, facing a pitcher from the windup vs. the stretch.  It's insight like that makes a good color man, not telling "war stories".

I've seen so many games the past few days I get confused, but was that Mo talking about the left-handed hitter who jacked one out right as both guys were gushing about how unhittable Josh Spence had been up to that point?  If so, not only did I like his analysis and voice, but wow, the simple joys of hearing correct grammar...how refreshing.

Why does almost every "analyst" on the planet (JD being one of the exceptions) seem to think phrases like "he should have went to third" or "if he had ran down the line harder" are sound?  Man, that's the all the color commentary I need, thank you.

If you are watching the UT/TCU game, there is a new winner of the worst color guy ever, Eric Young.   This guy stinks worse than a Port-o-Toilet at a construction site next to a Taco Bell.
There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

Thanks for this. I assumed that "The man who made me long for Joe Morgan" thread was about Eric Young, and was disappointed. I finally gave up in the 6th, and watched with the Worrell Button engaged until the last out. Holy shit, he's awful.

HOOK 'EM, and here's hoping for a Texas vs LSU final.

What's worse is he said the exact same stupid shit all three games.  By last night, a player would come up to bat and my wife would know what he was going to say before he said it.
