The left-hander is not happy about the Braves' decision. "He wants to pitch. He feels great," his agent, Gregg Clifton, said. "He's still shocked about being released by a team he's been a member of, and he's not prepared to retire. He looks forward to pitching again in 2009."

Glavine met with Braves general manager Frank Wren, John Schuerholz, and manager Bobby Cox. Glavine was told his velocity is down, and the executives suggested to Glavine that he could retire. But Glavine intends to pitch again.

I hope that Glavine goes out gracefully and not like Steve Carlton, club-hopping and a hoping and a praying. His last two seasons were almost impossible to watch.

After releasing Tom Glavine in what appears to be a move to save salary, the Atlanta Braves turned around and took on money by acquiring outfielder Nate McLouth from the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The Braves gave up pitcher Charlie Morton, minor league outfielder Gorkys Hernandez and minor league pitcher Jeff Locke.

I'm amazed they got him without giving up Hanson or Schaffer.

Schaffer was striking out at an alarming rate. I believe Hernandez is more highly regarded, but he's also still in AA. I've never even heard of Locke.

I'm not suprised that they didn't deal Hanson. His stuff is unbelievable. He's the kind of youngster that you see burst on the scene and make a difference in the playoffs. He's that good.

Hanson is no joke. I saw him several times over the spring and if he stays healthy he is going to be a total nightmare in a couple of years. Hell, maybe this year.

Apparently Padilla is gone as well. Placed on outright waivers with 10 days to work a trade, which won't happen.

They signed him to an extension earlier this year- $15 mil for 3 years, I think- so they already knew what he was gonna make. This looks like a pure baseball trade- McLouth, while a good player, is not extremely difficult to replace (especially if his defense is as bad as some say). I don't know much about the prospects but sounds like all 3 have a chance to become good - probably not great - players. And sure, they save a little money.

By the way, I thought the name was "Galvine"?

Actually as a native that is a close translation. "Braun" is brown and "fels" is rock or cliff. So it is close to the English translation from German.
