Just started Fallout 3 on the 360 http://xbox360.ign.com/dor/objects/882301/fallout-3/videos/fallout3_vidreview.html and made me think of great games to waste time to, when there's time to be wasted.

360:

The Orange Box (half-life, 5 games in 1)
BioShock
Gears of War
Rock Band
NCAA Football

Wii:

I just can't find time to play any more but I always end up buying games anyway. When I do play, it can usually only be for 20-30 minutes max. One game that fits that short window well for me is the Burnout series. Crash Mode, where you try to create the biggest pile up possible, never fails to satisfy.

PS3/Xbox 360:

Seconded on Burnout.

Resident Evil 5 is a lot of fun if you like killing zombies (360 or PS3)

Street Fighter IV is great if you're an old school arcade fanatic (like me).

Wii:

Target Toss Pro: Bags is the ultimate party game (WiiWare, downloadable only)

Madworld (which I have to get back to...later guys!)

If you like old-school, Final Fight, Double Dragon type beat 'em ups. Also, hilarious, X-rated commentary and gratuitous violence and blood...which is not really my thing, but the whole package is so good, I just can't resist.

I like PC games and mainly like military strategy games especially with all the mod communities out there.

My favorites are :
Hearts of Iron II with the CORE mod
Rome : Total War with the Europa Barbaroum Mod
Civ IV : Beyond the Sword

I am trying to learn the Empire : Total War, but I haven't got a feel for it and I get frustrated with the interface.

I also like to play Holye Card Games (mainly Bridge) when I am short for time.

I'll add the Call of Duty games, particularly CoD 4. Mass Effect is also good, and since the Civilization games have already been mentioned, I'll throw in Civilization Revolution. It's a vastly dumbed-down Civ game for the Xbox360 in which you can finish a game in about 3-4 hours. I also like Battlestations Midway; even though it's unrealistic and pretty hokey, it's a lot of fun. The much bigger Battlestations Pacific is being released in a couple of weeks.

My favorite 360 game is GTA IV, and the add-on Lost and the Damned is fun too.

My fun timesuck was always Lego Star Wars -- easy game, doesn't require precision shooting abilities at all (that's what frustrates me the most), and my husband's favorite on his PS2 was the Prince of Persia and God of War series. Also great games.

Little Big Planet is currently collecting dust on my shelf. I liked it okay but I have too many games I haven't finished yet, I'll get to it someday. I'm pissed because my PS3 wet itself when I tried to install MLB 09: The Show. It would go to a black screen and never install the game (sad when we've gotten to the point of games having to install, I miss cartridges). Then my Resident Evil 5 trophies disappeared, and I wasn't able to join my friend's game online anymore. So I did the backup, reformat thing. Then the PS3 decided my backup "has no data" even though there's 30 GB of blood sweat and tears from RE5, Metal Gear, Rock Band, etc.

So pardon me if I seem a little anti-Sony at the moment.

Oh yeah, Elder Scrolls IV (Oblivion) is great. I finished the original game but not the expansion, and I've been meaning to go back to it. I also just got the new Riddick game which includes the original Butcher Bay, but I haven't had a chance to try those out.

Funny, Oblivion is a big part of why I upgraded my computer. I've also just played the main game and not the expansions. It's fun, but a tremendous time-sucker and I just don't play games the way I used to. When Morrowind came out, I played that almost non-stop until I beat the game, then started over with a new character. Now there's jobs, responsibilities, etc.

Couple weeks ago I got hooked back into Baseball Stars (NES). That's a great game.

I am a fan of Civ IV(all of them actually). I too had weaned myself from the game, but every once in a while when I have 8 hrs to burn, I will start another game.

Personally I didn't like Oblivion too much. Way too wizard-y for me. And I don't know how no one has mentioned Street Fighter IV yet, unless I missed it, for time wasting. Its the first game I can play for hours without getting tired of it. There are so many nuances for the game.

I could list off tens of PS2 favorites... but I figure that system is a bit old now.

Oh, and Civ IV is awesome for time wasting. You can kill 3-4 hours easily.

I can't get enough RBI though. Played 9 innings of Astros beating the Red Sox, took about 15 minutes. Ryan, Scott, Kerfeld and Smith had a near shutout after scoring 6 off of Clemens. Made me giddy in a vid-dork kinda way.

Whoops. Well, SFIV is ridiculously awesome. It is a great addition the series, and to the PS3 (or XBOX). There are so many small nuances to the game, I love it.

The demo for Battlestations Pacific is up on xbox live. I had a good time with it.

Marvel v. Capcom is coming out pretty soon also for aficionados of wacky fighting games. I played the demo on PS3, and it is pretty entertaining. It will probably be ridiculously overpriced on PSN and XBOX Live, of course.

One of the amazing things my current girlfriend has brought to the relationship(which she will agree with too) is her Dreamcast in excellent working condition with a very nice game library. I was very excited about that.

I had one as well. It was retired for many years and then Virtua Tennis made an epic comeback my senior year of college. Only came in behind Halo and FIFA, and only Halo because we had rigged it so up to 16 people could play in our house at one time all on the same level or whatever you call it in the multi-player mode.

I've got one. I keep telling myself I need to take it (and the N64, PS2, etc) to one of those game stores that buys em, but I'm inexplicably attached to them. When each was bought, it was a signifigant chunk of my paychecks in those days, so perhaps it's that.

My favorite 4-player game was Power Stone 2. You can be a chef that turns into a pink dinosaur and beats people with trumpets or lightsabers...while you're running down the corridor in an ancient tomb trying not to get squashed by boulders (a la Indiana Jones). Damn, I might just have to get one of those on eBay just to play that again. Crazy Taxi was awesome too.

I hate to admit it, but I'm terrible at Halo. The only FPS I was ever good at was Duke Nukem 3D. By the way, I hear they're making a sequel to it.

ACTUALLY...now that you bring it up, one of my friends was dating one of the artists at 3DRealms when I was a freshman in college (circa 98). The artist was a fun guy, redneck with a mullet and a red Corvette. He was 30, my friend was 19. Anyway, when I found out what he did, of course I had to ask him when Duke Nukem Forever was coming out (it was originally supposed to come out in '98). He said, "I can't really talk about that, I don't know myself." So I said, "Sometime this year, or maybe next year?" He replied, "Definitely not this year." Looks like he was right!

At this point they're screwed when it does come out because there is no way it will meet people's expectations. They started developing it two generations ago! That's like eons in video game years.

Funny, we were just talking about this....I guess Duke Nukem Forever really is kaput.

I was just reading that. Take Two seems adamant that they'll get the game finished by some other company as they have the publishing rights.

I spent many a quarter wasting time with my friends playing the video games in the lobby of the UH North Tower's cafeteria entrance. Star Wars, Gauntlet II (I was always the Valkyrie, Doug was always the elf), and the most hysterical pinball game ever- Elvira and the Party Monsters.

Elvira is a classic. I believe they have a working table at Poison Girl.

Oh, and here's a salacious conspiracy-theory type story about why Duke Nukem Forever never came out from one of the developers. And, like Ron Artest's story, it involves violence with furniture (chair leg this time).
