Wii
« on: April 15, 2009, 10:05:10 am »
Mrs. MM set me up with a Wii for my birthday.  While I do enjoy the gentle mocking of Wii Fit as it asks me if I trip when I walk, I was wondering if anyone knew of any worthwhile baseball games for the Wii?

Also, is the EA Sports stuff (Madden, NCAA, etc.) worthwhile on the Wii?
I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

There is one in my house.  I have never played it, but I can tell you the background music gets pretty fucking annoying.

I like the Madden football for Wii.  The best baseball game I have played on Wii is the MLB Power Pro series.  It's cute and goofy in a distinctively Japanese style, but I enjoy it.  Gameplay is not particularly deep, but I think it makes pretty good use of the Wii remote control.

I know you didn't ask, but my favorite games for Wii are No More Heroes and Mario Strikers: Charged.  No More Heroes is a weird cartoony game where you play an assassin who kills with a lightsaber he got off eBay, and Mario Strikers is a fun arcade style soccer game.

Tiger Woods Golf is pretty cool.  The tennis game that comes with it is fun, although my wife kicks my butt every time we play.

Oh and you have to download Target Toss Pro: Bags from WiiWare.  Nothing like a game of virtual cornhole on a rainy day.  Behind Wii Bowling it's probably the most popular party game at my household.

Wii golf is awesome!  Wii tennis infuriates me, so I refuse to play it and my 10 year old thinks I'm a big baby that I don't want to play against him.  He's like 120-0 versus me in tennis.  Now I know what Andy Roddick feels like when he sees Federer on the other side.

Check out Mad World too. Great style and totally ridiculous violence. You get to drag a werewolf to his death behind your harley.

Boom Blox is pretty sweet when you get past the training.

You may know this already, but I always got whipped in Wii tennis until I realized that its more to your benefit to look at the shadow of the ball, rather than the actual ball, and time your hits based on that.  Much easier to time when to put spins and angles on it based on the shadow.
Today seems like a good day to burn a bridge or two

I rarely play video games but I really enjoyed Zelda.  Just make sure you really do tighten the strap around your wrist - my husband had a Wii bowling incident that just missed destroying our plasma tv by inches.

Major League Baseball 2K8 was supposed to be fairly decent, and you can pick it up for $20. The 2K9 version is reportedly a pile of shit - the same game, but with some extra fail built in, and $50. I haven't tried either, in part because I'm not sure how to explain the inevitable debilitating rotator cuff injury to my employer.
