If I'm translating correctly, there's a little problem.  There was never 7 dollar beer sold at the Astrodome.

On one of those 100+ degree days at Aqua Mess in the late 80s I had a Tecate that tasted like a can of  dirt. Now I stick with Negra Modelo or Bohemia when looking for south-of-the-border refreshment.

To keep this thread on topic...this is not even a contest.  Dogfish Head, any of it, is the clear winner, having lapped the field several times.  It is the single worst tasting liquid ever to proclaim itself an alcoholic beverage.

You know, I used to think something called Sam Adams Triple Bock held this title.  Then I tried Dogfish Head.  I was shocked that something could taste so bad.

I am with you HH - I am far from a beer expert, but I cannot imagine how that much hops in a beer is considered a good thing.

I don't particularly care for the Dogfish beers, Oregon's Blitz beer is far worse.   It was $2.99 a twelve pack and chewing the can they came in is preferable to drinking it.

Had some really crap beer in England, particularly one called Friary Miex, which was just nasty.  Tasted like paint.

Me too.  The hops are a little overpowering at first, but then the ABV kicks in and you don't care.  It's available on draft at the Gingerman, just make sure you're not driving.

Imagine accidentally taking a sip from the can your friend has been spitting his dip-spit in to all day, then add a slightly metallic aftertaste. You're almost to "Steel Reserve High Gravity" when you feel like you just bit in to some tinfoil.

Steel Reserve is the only alcoholic beverage that has given me genuine blackouts.  I once drank half a bottle of tequila, without blacking out (not recommending this, obviously)  Two forty-ounces of Steel Reserve and I either blacked out or was teleported 8 hours into the future.

Guy was a die-hard Pirates fan, from a small town in Missouri. Loved to drink shitty beer. Steel Reserve was his favorite. Nothing would stop a night of beer-drinking good times like seeing Brandon come stumbling downstairs with the remains of his SR 12er in his hands, offering one to anyone that was nearby. I'd become sober as a judge at the mere thought of drinking one. It was like I had a built in reflex to sober me up enough to know better whenever he was nearby.

If you do hear of it, or see it, run the other way. I have actually had several. If you must take part, just poor out the beer, cut the can into pieces, stick the pieces in your mouth....chew.

It is much more pleasurable that way....seriously.

Yeah, it's not passing out, it's just losing big chunks of time.  I was apparently walking around and acting relatively normal...except that I have no memory whatsoever of it.  I don't know if this is common for other people, but it dissuaded me from ever drinking that again.  God knows what nasty shit they put in there.

Ol' Brandon convinced me once in a Steel Reserve induced haze to shave his rather long hair into a mullet. He seemed relatively sober at the time.

Long ago, a friend of mine gave me some 24 oz cans of it as a thank you gift. I had to ask later if he was fucking with me. He assured me he was not - he just liked the way the cans looked. We are no longer friends. It's actually that bad.

Honestly, I think I was being a little unfair to Sportz earlier...

Stranded in a hotel in Paris and all this beer talk made me change my mind about dinner.  There is a restaurant just up the street from the Luxembourg gardens that specializes in german & Belgian beer.  I just had a liter of Leffe draft, that was wonderful!

But since the topic is worst beers, I thought I would weigh in with my story.  On the display shelf of the aforementioned restaurant was a bottle of Rodenbach.  Unlike Zima and some of the other swill mentioned earlier in this thread, Rodenbach really is beer.  And unlike the various fruit lambics that are made mostly or completely with some non-grain mash, it really is made from barley.  But, it is also made with Juniper berries.  Think mixing a shot or two of Beefeaters into a pint of Falstaff.

I first ran into this affront to the brewing arts when traveling in Belgium severl years ago.  I started with Chimay, but quickly branched out into the likes of Leffe (excellent), Westmalle Trippel (even better), Maredsous, Corsendonk, Kasteel and many others.  True, I did run onto the occaisonal lambic by mistake, but those were merely "bad", and I found that I could recover by ordering a known brand as a follow-up.  Then I wandered into some place near the Grand Place in Brussels and ordered a Rodenbach. Un-drink-able.  I could *not* believe how bad it was.  Thinking back on my illustration above, I may have done a disservice to both gin and Falstaff.  It may have been more like Mr. Clean mixed with paint thinner.  At least my teeth got two shades whiter!

After failing in my attempt to swallow a second sip, I summoned the waiter and asked him to dispose of the rest of the glass with care and bring me something intended for human consumption.

I *promise* you ... this is the worst beer ever.

And before you ask, *yes*, I am even including the German Rauchbier style in that assessment.  Much better beer that tastes like it has been used to rinse out the ashtrays in the Gasthauß, than Rodenbach!

Mmm...Leffe...

But Kaiserdom Rauchbier is still good.  Or was, when they made it, I don't know if they still do.
I'm in love with rock and roll and I'll be out all night.
