Oswalt supposedly going to be team USA's ace.
A quote:
"I figured I'd start two weeks earlier, in case I need to pitch five innings March 5," Oswalt said.

Here's hoping Team USA gets bounced in the first round.

I hate it, too, and wish Roy wasn't going.

I'm sure MLB is working hard to convince teams that it's just coincidence that so many of the guys who pitched in the first WBC ended up with sore arms and lousy stats.

IMO Roy's choice to pitch in the WBC is an indication of his thinking of the Astros' chances this season.  Try to win some championship even if there isn't a chance at the World Series.
Always ready to go to a game.

I enjoyed the final Japan vs Cuba game in the last WBC.

I'm not a big fan of the WBC.

I went to the WBC and some Spring training games in AZ and enjoyed them all.  While I am convinced that trying to pitch at a 'championship level' that early in the season did Lidge and some others no favors (and caused some problems), I am not as worried about Roy being there as I would be others, as he generally (IMO) seems to be farther along in his 'conditioning' by the time that Spring training roles around than most.
In the end, my dissolution with the game of baseball will not be a result of any loss of love for the game, rather from the realization that I can no longer bear the anger its supposed stewards cause to be built up in my soul. -Lee (01/08/2013)

No offense, but you better have been typing that post with crossed fingers...all the while knocking on wood and thinking about how you might be able to work a lucky rabbit foot in with the golden thong you've been wearing for 77 consecutive days.

Was not referring to injury related issues, but not sure how I can back out of that one short of absolute contrition. Will make amends immediately.

Edited to remove additional idiotic statement.  Thanks JD!

Are any other Astros participating?  Valverde for D.R.?  Lee for Panama?  Kaz for Japan?  Uhh...  Graves for Vietnam or Trinidad for Tobago?

Matsui was out of Jap 34-man roster announced last Dec..  He was not happy with that but he won't join Japaneses team.

Astros originally didn't allow C. J. Lo to join Taiwan team, but Taiwan baseball association file some complain to WBC committee (not only focus on Lo but couple minor leaguers were also included)... I don't know what happen after that, but Lo was on the Taiwan's 45-man roster announced yesterday.
