I went back this morning and read what some of you have posted here (This also contains this classic post by Taras).  Has anyone ever seen Texans (or NFL) games available as torrents?

Oh yeah!  You have to register twice, once for the site and once for the Leech Tracker, but I see just about all of 'em.  Also preseason and the 1962 AFL Championship, Texans at Oilers.  Thanks for the link!

I've never downloaded a torrent. What site do I start at? What program is the best to download to run a torrent? I've got a link to the Texas/Missouri game titled, "Neutering Pathera Tigers". Started downloading it overnight, after like 22 hours it had only downloaded 19% and I didn't have a program to run it. Said it was 6 gigs. Basically, I just want to find the best program to download to run torrents that won't fuck up my computer. I'm ignant about this stuff, help.

You can search for torrents at isohunt.com.  I use the BitLord torrent client but there are others.

I just started by reading what was in the thread I linked to in my original post.  I'm using uTorrents.  As far as speed, uTorrents tells me it isn't optimized because I'm not port forwarding.  I did try setup port forwarding last night but could not log on to my router.  I was still able to download the Chargers game from Sunday while watching the last episode of BSG Season 1 last night.  Obviously you should look for torrents with a lot of seeders.

I also cancelled Netflix.

I understand using torrents for things that aren't otherwise available and/or are legal for download, but as far as downloading movies instead of netflix, why don't you just steal them from Best Buy?

Just explain why it's different.

One is a series of ones and zeroes transmitted as data packets over a network. The other is a physical item with  actual manufacturing and distribution costs. Taking either represents a violation of a law, but they are very different laws. I'm not condoning either, but they are distinctly different things.

Now you explain why you're judging.

So far I've really only used Netflix to watch the Stargate series and Battlestar Galactica.  I plan on downloading the shows I haven't seen, watch them, then delete them.  Not really that different than watching a re-run IMO.  I'm also extremely dissapointed with Netflix because my Vista pop-up blocker only seems to let through Netflix ads.  Very frustrating when you're already a customer.  I buy DVDs at the store and I haven't downloaded an mp3 in about five years.

The cost of the physical item is pretty negliglble in the grand scheme of things - in both cases, you are paying for the content.

Mostly just curious why a huge majority of otherwise law-abiding people think this is okay.

What do you think Best Buy's variable cost for a single DVD is? More or less than ten cents?

More, and my original point remains the same. When you smugly ask someone why they don't just go steal a physical item from a store, it serves little purpose but to let us know how superior you think you are. I support being obnoxious, just don't get flustered when someone points it out.

Then you have no need to argue the point. Just tell me how nice the view from up there is, and be done with it.

I was honestly hoping you'd explain it. Saying it's a different crime than stealing didn't really answer the question.

I didn't offer to explain it in the first place, I said you're on a high horse. I'm not the only one who thinks so, apparently.

I personally don't download torrents of movies or steal them from Best Buy. Perhaps someone else can do a better job of answering how those are different things.

I don't do either, I just get buddies who do those things to burn them to CD/DVD for me so I don't have the legal liability.

I guess I just see it differently.  I might download a football game or two because I'm out of market.  I'm never going to pay for NFL Ticket so NFL isn't losing any extra money by me watching it.  Same thing with Battlestar Galactica, I'll never buy the DVDs.  I can always just watch the marathons on TV.  They may miss out on ad money by me downloading the torrents, but I usually record shows on my DVR and fast forward through the commercials anyway.  So I really don't feel guilty about it.
