Who's going?  Maybe the SnS types can meet up for a beverage or two.

Also, would like some recommendations on bands not otherwise described as "contemplative"/"afro pop infused"/"psych pop duo"/"eastern inflected melodics."

We will be there Sunday afternoon.  Foo Fighters will be playing their last show for a long time (ever?)

I'm gonna be there.  I'll probably be wearing aviators and sheik outfit.  Hope it's cooler this year.

Foo Fighters, John Fogherty, Robert Plant/Allison Kraus or Beck.  You'll have to pick one or the other out of the last 2 because the ACL fest planners in their infinite wisdom overlapped the shows for all but 15 minutes.  I'm picking Plant because even though they'll only play 2 or 3 acoustic Zeppelin songs, I still want to see Robert Plant sing.

Mrs Tralfaz and i will be in attendance all three days.  This years line up is a little lame compared to years past, but hey, beats working.  Racontours, Hot Chip and Band of Horses top my list.

I saw Band of Horses back in February in Austin, it was a good show.  They're playing a gig Saturday night at the Parish.

I'm not going this year, but if I did, these are the bands I'd be most interested in seeing:

MGMT
Beck
Fleet Foxes
The Raconteurs
White Denim
Old 97's
Vampire Weekend
Okkervil River
Silversun Pickups
M. Ward
Tegan and Sara
Iron & Wine
Erykah Badu
Jose Gonzalez
Conor Oberst
David Byrne
Del
Drive-By Truckers
The Black Keys
Gogol Bordello

Tegan and Sara

and the only reason this is on the list of any male, is that they are sisters(twins!) and lesbians.

or at least that better be the reason.

Not a bad reason, but they're good musicians also. Definitely not my favorite, but I'd check 'em out.

They were scheduled to play Houston the other day at the Woodlands.  Does anyone know if that show went on or was cancelled?

It was scheduled for tomorrow, actually, but it was cancelled.

Looks like they'll be playing Oklahoma City tomorrow night instead.

Park downtown and then walk to the shuttles that take you to Zilker Park.  You should be able to find free street parking without too much trouble.

In addition to a massive music festival, 98,000 people are going to the Texas-Arkansas game on Saturday. Combined, that's a shitload of people.

And I'm having a housewarming party... So add like 3 more people in from out of town.

When I was a kid in the late 60's, we drove past the Forum in Los Angeles on the way to visiting relatives. The sign at the arena said 'Led Zeppelin tonight!' I had just read about the Hindenburg disaster in school, and I remember asking my folks how could they make a Zeppelin out of Lead and expect it to fly?

They had no clue what I was talking about, so we were all completely lost on the meaning. If they didn't play on the Lawrence Welk Show, they hadn't heard of them.

Yes they did.

Right before them, saw Band of Horses.  Good show.  Other acts during the weekend:

Friday:
Bobby Bare, Jr.--first few songs meandered around, then gave an inspired performance.

Ryan Bingham--country/rock--good sound.
Alejandro Escovedo--not ready for prime time.

Saturday:
Robert Earl Keen--the road goes on forever, the party never ends.  Great show.
John Fogerty--tight sound.  He hit all of the CCR stuff.
Plant and Krauss--couldn't believe how much Plant sounded just like Plant.  Great band behind them.
Note: was told that the Black Keys was an outstanding show.  Missed it.

Sunday:
Silversun Pickups: couldn't get into them.
Shooter Jennings: same.
White Denim: same.
Band of Horses and Foo Fighters--great acts.
Kevin Fowler: heard he put on a great show.

Overall, ACL did not live up to last year and could use a little more star power, imho.  The beer selection was the same as last year: Heineken and Lone Star.  Drank a lot of it, but somebody needs to get Spoetzl to go strong on the ACL bid for next year.  Also, the port a can situation is awful.  With all the engineering talent in Austin, can't somebody figure out a way to construct Oktoberfest style pee troughs, thereby freeing up the port a cans for the ladies?  It would speed up things for everyone.

John Fogherty was great.  He hasn't lost much over the years.  The only song I wished he had played was Put a Candle in the Window, but he did everything else.  Plant and Krauss were good, their rendition of The Battle of Evermore was pretty close to the original Zeppelin version.  Plant's voice was good.  If Zep get's back together and goes on tour, I will be there.  I don't care how much the tickets cost.  I was disappointed in REK.  Corpus Christi Bay is my favorite song and he's butchered it by speeding it up.

Gizzmonic's quick reviews

Friday:

Louis XIV: great fucking rock n roll, these guys are dirty!

Del the Funky Homosapien: decent show, surprised that he brought out "Dr. Bombay" and some of his old stuff.  "Virus" was the only song from Deltron 3030, and he closed with "Clint Eastwood" by Gorillaz.

Hot Chip: Not as danceable as I thought they would be based on what I'd heard beforehand.  Still decent.

N.E.R.D.: nice and smooth, "Killjoy" was fun.

Saturday

MGMT: forgettable

John Fogerty: Very businesslike.  Great with all these Credence stuff, but didn't talk much and seemed a little stiff.  Would like to see him at his own concert.

Black Keys: Full of rock energy.  Not sure how these guys do it with just a guitar and drums.

Beck: Started out with "Loser," and kept the crowd rocking until he wandered into the mopey stuff from "Sea Change."  Then went back with some Odelay and Midnite Vultures.  great show.

More later

Grab another Coke and let's die

My faves
1.  Fleet Foxes - Best four part harmonies I've ever heard live with a hang over (them, not me).
2.  Racontuers - rocked balls
3.  Hot Chip - Electronica in the daylight of Zilker park.  Crowd was bonkers.
4.  Band of Horses - Wonderful vocals, good Neil Young style fest rock
5.  Robert Pant - Blue grass Zep versions were perfect
6.  Louis XIV - suprisingly good
7.  Delta Spirit - kicked ass

Conner Obhurst is an over rated wannabe
Dave Grohl was extra screamy, made me laugh

Weather: Exceptional
Crowd:  Beautiful
Food:  Good to great
Beer: Ice cold every time
Austin, TX:  Greatest city on the planet
