Any word on the game tomorrow?
« on: September 13, 2008, 07:48:49 pm »
Astros site said a decision would be made this afternoon.
Another trenchant comment by a jealous lesser intellect.

Have seen nothing on Astros.com or Chron.com, but the Chicago Tribune noted that "According to Cubs sources, the team has decided not to travel on Saturday no matter what decision is made by MLB. This suggests a game on Sunday in Houston is unlikely."  LINK

Astros site said a decision would be made this afternoon.

There's a bit of information from the Chronicle--about 8pm Saturday.  The stadium is fine.  McLane is hesitant to play in Houston because of the difficulties the fans are still experiencing.  MLB is having a difficult time finding a domed stadium where they can play, and a domed stadium seems important because rain happens. Milwaukee is likely, though I'd guess not for tomorrow since the Houston airports are still closed.  It seems to me cruel to drag players away from their families--though the families might enjoy the diversion.

Frankly, between moi et du, I have electricity, and could watch a baseball game, but at this point I'd rather have a shower.

ESPN ticker says no structural damage to MMP.  MLB is still deciding, including playing all three games in Milwakee.

Stand firm, Drayton. The Astros shouldn't have to play a home series in Cubland.

2 games moved to Milwaukee - 7:05 central tomorrow and 1:05 central on Monday.  Third game played in Houston on Sept. 29 if necessary.

Drayton got taken to school here. He's reluctant to play the games in Houston because of the safety of the fans? "We don't want to play a game if folks are stressing with their homes... The safety of our fans is most important."

So make your team travel to Milwaukee instead? To play in front of a Cubs crowd? I don't get it.

Almost forgot - fuck the Cubs.

This is nuts.  Any Milwakee fans would theoretically be cheering for the Cubs, too, despite their hatred?  Not sure on that one.

It's such fucking bullshit.  Milwaukee is the farthest thing from a neutral site - both from their proximity to Chicago and the ongoing wild card / pennant race.  There are a number of other stadiums that could be used (Dodger stadium?  No football or rain issues here!).  Fuck Selig, Fuck the Cubs and Fuck the Brewers.

If you ask me, not that you would, this is a goddamn outrage. What the hell was Drayton thinking? The Cubs could've been here on Friday to get at least one game in but they refused. Now, because they're whiny pussies, the Astros have to deal with finding an open airport to get to Milwaukee in time for tomorrow night's "home" game?

I'm spitting nails right now. Motherfuckers.

According to Cubs sources, the team has decided not to travel on Saturday no matter what decision is made by MLB. This suggests a game on Sunday in Houston is unlikely.

Heavy rains in Chicago will prevent the Cubs from their scheduled workout at Wrigley Field on Saturday afternoon. But the players will still meet at the ballpark with suitcases in hand to await the decision from Major League Baseball on when and where their series with Houston will be played.

Adding to the degree of difficulty the Astros face in getting the games in at home is the fact that Houston International Airport is expected to be closed until Monday, making it hard for the Cubs to fly in.

Insane.  Did they have to use a NL park?  Why not go to Tampa, play a DH Sunday?  They'd both have Monday off and no extra advantage to the cubs.  BTW they play the Crew at Milwaukee starting on Tuesday.  This is advantage fucking cubs all the way around.

So should I presume the Astros are jumping on a Greyhound bound for Milwaukee?

The choice of Milwaukee is cunt-fucking bullshit.

That said, let any statement be made on the field.

From here on out, every game is a playoff game.

I can accept games not being played in Houston tomorrow or Monday (safety issues, plus not sure it is entirely appropriate given the losses and hardships so many are suffering there and in the surrounding areas last night).

That being said, Milwaukee?

If the Good Guys are even remotely as annoyed about this as I am right now, this could be fun to watch!

BTW, I would think "neutral site," by definition, would have to be a venue outside ones own division (and league).

According to the comical Minnesota was considered.  I wonder if the Union nixed a DH on Sunday.  The Twins are at home on Monday.  IIRC all the domed AL teams are home on Monday but not on Sunday.

I think they should've played two at MMPUS on Monday. I've been in touch with my mom and some friends in that area and it's basically the same story--they have no power, tree limbs are everywhere, and they're going stir-crazy. Minute Maid has power and is structurally sound. The Stros could've given the people of Houston a much-needed break and fostered civic unity in the aftermath of Ike.

"This is costly for us. This is painful for us, but we felt for our fans and our city we needed to move these games. This is the right thing to do for our fans. We have a great chance to win the wild card and we think this will give them something to cheer them up."

The quoted speech is from JJO's article in the Chronicle. I will not link to it out of mercy to my fellow TZers.

Playing Astros home games in Milwaukee is the right thing to do for Astros fans and will cheer us all up. They needed to move the games on account of all Astros fans. Who apparently do not wish to attend the games.

Note that "costly" and "painful" mean that it is reducing the Astros' revenue, not their chance at post-season play.

I certainly do not participate in the 'Drayton is Cheap' chorus, but as for 'Drayton is a Fuckwit,' I sing bass.

This is such bullshit.  Astros lose two home games during a wild card race and Bud gets two extra games to line his pockets.  Some friend you've got there, Drayton.  He doesn't even have the common courtesy to give you a reach around.

I second every one of your comments on this subject.  I saw the email notice from the Astros on my phone during intermission at the Eagles concert tonight (in Dallas) and I literally screamed "THOSE BASTARDS!!!  THAT'S A FUCKING NEUTRAL SITE?!?!!"

FUCK THOSE MOTHERFUCKING PUSSY COCKSUCKERS!!  AND THE CUBS TOO.

Fuck the fucking Cubs in the ass with a big rubber dick, then break it off in their ass, and beat them with the other part! Let's not forget, not only does Bud get 2 more home games, it helps with his chances  of getting playoff gate too! This is the most ridiculous shit ever!

This just in: Selig to Astros: “Stop complaining, or I’ll make you play the entire 2009 season in Montreal” (LINK)

Quote
“If I hear one more criticism of my decision, be it from a player, fan, owner, or blogger, so help me God, I am going to make the Houston Astros play the entire 2009 season in Montreal,” Selig said. “I will force them to spend their entire year without any friends or fans, living in cheap, French-only hotels and eating greasy food.  ***

“I really had no options,” Selig said. “It was either play the games in Milwaukee, try and find somewhere else to play them, or reschedule them for those two days after the season that are specifically earmarked for rainouts. Well, the last one wasn’t an option, since we don’t want to mess up the Cubs’ rotation before the playoffs start. ***

“I’m sorry that the Astros and their fans feel like this was unfair,” Selig said. “But they could have easily brought a bunch of fans up from Houston to Milwaukee for the game, like the Cubs did. I mean, they were all evacuating Houston anyway...***
