Game tomorrow
« on: September 11, 2008, 11:20:18 am »
I'm guessing even with the 1:05 start and the Cubs in town this may have the smallest crowd in MMP history.  I went to the Pirates game on Tuesday and that was pretty depressing even without hurricane hysteria.

Anybody else going?

I have tickets, but I don't know if I plan on going.

If I have to work a half-day downtown tomorrow, you bet your ass I'm going to this game.

That would be odd, since they've asked every business to close.

If the mayor has time to bother with Drayton, he'll tell him not to play the damn game.

If we were the Jakes, the Astros would cancel the Cassel and Arias starts for sure, unless Backe makes a comeback for Saturday that is.  But since the Astros are not the Jakes, look for them to get in these games if at all possible.

If there is a hurricane moving to Houston, does it make sense to fly the Cubs into town?

Plus, the Cubs have a game tonight and probably wouldn't even get to their hotel until 2 a.m. Friday morning (and that's if the game ends in 3 hours).  Fuck the Cubs and everthing, and I'm glad to take advantage, but I could see some people being pissed off about the fact that the Cubs would have to play a game at 1:00.

And if the Astros don't play on Friday and Saturday, what happens to the schedule?  Do they play a double header on Sunday?  on Monday?  Or do they move the games to the end of the season?  Cause I'm thinking that if the games are at the end of the season, Wigginton and Matsui might be able to play and maybe even Lee.

That's a great point!

First of all, if any team should have to deal with coming into town and playing a 1:00 game, it's the Cubs, who have done this to oppponents for years.

Second - Monday is open for both teams, you could have a double-header then.

For obvious reasons, I would imagine the Cubs are the most prepared team in baseball to be able to handle such a schedule.

Has there ever been a triple header?

"tripleheaders
There are three recorded instances of a tripleheader in Major League Baseball, indicating three games between the same two teams on the same day. These occurred between the Brooklyn Bridegrooms and Pittsburgh Innocents on September 1, 1890 (Brooklyn won all three); between the Baltimore Orioles and Louisville Colonels on September 7, 1896 (Baltimore won all three); and between the Pittsburgh Pirates and Cincinnati Reds on October 2, 1920 (Cincinnati won two of the three). Triple headers are now prohibited under the current collective bargaining agreement."

I have tickets and will be there if there is a game, even though the Cubs are obviously the dominant power in all of professional sports today and the Stros have no chance whatsoever at making the postseason.

The guy's name is really Bingo Crosby?  That's got to be made up.

I dunna know. Maybe he had sadistic parents. Look at the names that some people have today. Lots of hippie parents and others to factor into the mix.

His dad is a giant dick.  I honestly feel sorry for the kid, not just for the name, but for having a dad like that.
