Brewers update
« on: September 08, 2008, 10:13:06 pm »
For those not in the game zone, Reds get three in the ninth to beat Milwaukee 5-4.   Astros now five back.

I only brought up the score of a finished game and updated the standings.   Not assuming anything here.

Of course not. This season has been entertaining, but let's not get carried away. The Astros are an old team of washed up, overpaid veterans fluking into some late season magic. If we knew what was good for us, we'd root for losses just so we wouldn't be forced to suffer through Uncle Drayton's delusions.

We all know the Brewers are Bud Selig's the BBGs' gift to baseball. Surely they will win the World Series when Sabathia pitches 12 perfect games in the playoffs.

Philly just lost 10-8.  Phillies have just one less loss than the Stros now.

Don't get your hopes up too much, with three teams ahead of them and only a few weeks left in the season, it's an improbable goal.

The Cubs?  I love the Cubs, and I am certain they are America's Team.  I think it's high time that they won a World Series title.  What with their historic ballpark, energetic and knowledgeable fanbase, and 100 year drought, I think it's in the stars this season.  Look out Red Sox, you're going to get swept in this year's World Series!

A 2-2 split would be perfect.  A sweep one way or the other is death to any he that utters them.

Be careful of the Phillies... after this 4 game set with the Brewers, they have FLA, ATL, and WAS the rest of the way.

Hence the need for a split (and the Astros to keep rolling).  The gap will be the size of a pube by the time they (and the Astros) get to run out against the dregs.  I imagine the Astros, with the probable exception of Coop, will be the more relaxed unit at that point.

Nope, but that's a mute point if you're trying to edit a post on a BB.

(FTR, I think the iPhone's lack of something as seemingly simple as cut/copy 'n' paste is completely ridiculous - as is Apple's claim that it's not a priority)

Yeah, I was astonished to learn about that. It's so seemingly obvious that it never occurred to me to question whether it might not be present. I suppose there are some interesting interface challenges if you're lacking control keys and mouse buttons, but I'm surprised that one of their UI wizards hasn't dreamt something up by now.

It could be as simple as a button that changes a finger swipe from being drag to being select, and then double-tap to cut or copy.  Then you navigate to the insertion point and press the paste button (which could be the same button that changes to the paste function once a copy is selected).  Honestly, they've figured out a way to take screenshots (hold the home button and click the on/off button, which puts a screenshot on your camera roll)...but not copy/paste?

There are many apps that use multiple touches to achieve different actions.  I have a Mahjong game that allows me to enlarge, reduce, pan, rotate and change the plane of the board in all three dimensions using combinations of one or two fingers.  But Apple can't figure out copy/paste.  Very silly.

Ok, easy now, it's the 5th inning, and they have a 4-game lead.
edit: that was a nice swing by Hairston though, after Arroyo's Oswalt-esque bunt attempts.

I see nothing wrong with Uecker's comments.  The Astros have no chance and were fools to try to win ballgames.

Ok. I think some clarification of proper etiquette is needed here. I would think some discussion of the Reds game is totally within reason, as long as there is no gloating or other type of statements displaying hubris of any kind. Maybe we should set a no-exclamation point rule. And besides, it's not like we started a Game Zone thread for this.

Top 6, Reds had 1st and 3rd with nobody out, no runs scored.

Mid 6, 3-1 Reds.

Ok, the A's just finished off the Tigers, 5-2, on a boneheaded fucking baserunning play by Granderson, who got easily doubled off first when he inexplicably took off on Magglio Ordonez's fly ball to deep center. Link. You're right, I'm glad we didn't discuss this game ad nauseum while it was going on.

On that note...I would like to take this opportunity to thank baseball (and all deities therin) for baseball, meaningfull, hopeful, exciting, glorious baseball.  Regardless of result, it has once again delivered everything that makes September and October two of the greatest months in all of sports.

Milo disagrees.  In fact, he just called to inform me about my post-season ticket options. Apparantly I have until September 15 to shell out.

Speaking of which, did anyone notice the obvious discomfort that Footer was experiencing while sitting next to Lucas during last night's post game?  I'm guessing that during a commercial break he confirmed to her that he was indeed wearing a Victoria's Secret "black widow" combo underneath his suit.

OK, so I pull up Taras' last post, take a quick glance, see "Footer" and "Victoria's Secret", and think, "well, this should be good."

In other words... Taras, you unthinkable bastard.

Speaking of bad base running, the misadventure by the uncomfortably named Nyjer Morgan really bailed the Astros out Monday night.

I noticed something was up.  She had her head and hair tilted, reminding me of that midget girl in Total Recall with the long hair (no not the Tri-Boob one).

Yep.  4-3 Brew Crew.   Brilliant decision to pitch to a .252, 24 HR, 65 RBI guy with first base open and 2 outs instead of a .231, 1 HR, 12 RBI guy that was on deck.

I don't often watch the postgame, but I did last night, and I noticed that as well.  I'd never seen The Footer on TV before.  Is it possible that she is just uncomfortable in front of the camera?
