Keep doing what you're doing. Awesome. How about that Brew Crew? Instead of worrying about stats like no no's, they've let the pennant hunt get out of focus.

Lee walks to lead off the bottom of the 4th.
Ramirez yanks a ball barely foul at the LF corner, then flies out to Bourn in CF.
Soto (I think) flies out to Bourn in CF.
DeRosa squibs a ball left of the mound, Miggy makes a great effort, but DeRosa is safe at 1st. Lee to 2nd.
Reed Johnson strikes out looking at another beautiful strike on the outside corner.

At the end of 4, Astros lead 1-0.

Top of 5th.

Q grounds out to 2nd.
Dempster flies out to LCF.
Bourn grounds a 2-0 pitch into RF.
Wiggy makes BudGirl happy by cranking a no-doubter to LCF. Maybe the Cub fans now know what a homer looks like.
Miggy singles down the RF line.
Musketeer #3 goes to a full count and tries to kill Blum in the on-deck circle when the bat comes loose on a foul ball, and then walks. Four straight reaching base against Dempster.
Blum hits a bunch of foul balls and then strikes out on a nice change.

Middle of 5, Astros lead 3-0.

Bottom of 5.

Cedeno: takes the count full and then walks. Wolf is not pleased.
Dempster: fouls first two bunt attempts, then gets the sac down on a 1-2 pitch. Cedeno to 2nd.
Soridumbass: fouls the first three pitches off, then laces a line drive to left field. Wiggy comes to the ball great and makes a nice throw and Q gets Cedeno (maybe) at the plate. Soridumbass holds at 1st. Q took away the entire baseline and made a great sweep tag.
Theriot: rips a ball to CF and Bourn makes a great catch going back. I'm not sure whether he was too shallow to begin with or if he got a bad jump, but just barely got to that ball.

End of 5: Astros still lead 3-0, and Cub fans are shaking their heads.

Top of 6.

Pence: strikes out looking at a borderline outside pitch.
Newhan: grounds to Lee, who flips to Dempster covering.
Q: shows Bond a terrific new pen that doubles as a tactical nuke, and then strikes out.

Middle of 6: Astros lead 3-0.

Bottom of 6.

What's going on in Chicago? I'm seeing sweaters, gloves, and hats.

Lee: singles to LF. Yet another leadoff runner.
Ramirez: nails a deep liner to LF, Wiggy freezes a little bit and then has to go back hard, but he makes the jumping catch.
Soto: does something that must have been an out.
DeRosa (I think): grounds to Miggy for the force at 2nd.

Sorry, I missed some action there as my wife came in to describe Huckabee's speech.

End of 6: Astros lead 3-0.

Top of 7:

Wolf: singles to RF! 3rd hit of the year?
Bourn: Just misses a double down the LF line as it goes foul by a few inches [I really wanted to watch Soriano try to corral that one], and then walks. Runners at 1st and 2nd with nobody out.
Visit to the mound by Rothschild.
Wiggy: Goes down on an attempted check swing. JD knew exactly what was about to happen.
Miggy: GIDP 6-3. Inches closer to Ausmus' "unbreakable" record.

So, evidently Dempster is a free agent this winter. Pursue him or not? Discuss amongst yourselves.

Middle of 7: Astros still lead 3-0.

Bottom of 7.

Johnson: tries to sneak a bunt in there, but pushes it too hard, and Wolf makes the easy play.
Cedeno: singles on a six-hopper up the middle.
McGeheeeeeee (pinch hitting for Dempster): ground ball to Miggy, 6-3 DP.

This has been a tremendous outing by Wolf; outstanding control. He's making a strong bid to be asked back next year. Do we have an option on him, or will he be a free agent?

End of 7: Astros lead 3-0.

Top of 7.

(Uh oh. Brownie just mentioned the possibility of a sweep. Cubs haven't been swept at home since May of '07.)

Cotts (LHP) in to pitch.

Elvis (sporting a Deadwood mustache; I hadn't noticed that before): takes the count full, then flies out to LCF.
Blum: strikes out swinging on a 1-2 pitch.
Spaz: strikes out swinging at a pitch at his feet. At least it wasn't low and away.

Middle of 8: Astros maintain their 3-0 lead.

Bottom of 8.

Wolf still in. I don't even know if anybody is up in the pen.

Soriasshole: Flies to Pence in medium-deep RF.
Theriot: Another fly to Pence in RF.
Lee: Lee strikes out on a great curve. Lee looks like he's really in a funk right now.

Wow: JD says Cubs only have six home games left.

End of 8: Astros lead 3-0.

To more than a smattering of boos tonight...

Interesting bunt by Newhan there.

What is a good website for comparing stats?  I'm trying to find Wolf's stats since he was an Astro and can only find stats for the whole season.

EDIT: Found it

Top of 9.

Newhan: deftly bunts the ball over the pitcher and in front of the shortstop!

That's it for Cotts; here comes Samardzijayajwhaha.

Q: unpacks Bond's new autogyro, and then gets his bat snapped off on a popup to 2nd.
Wolf: fouls off the first two bunt attempts. Needs to aim for that spot behind the pitcher. Swinging away, but fouls it back. Flies to deep CF, but it's just an out.
Bourn: singles into shallow RCF, Newhan goes to 3rd.
Wiggy: Bourn gets caught off 1st, but keeps the Cubbies occupied long enough to let Newhan come home, and then the Cubbies can't handle the ball at the plate and Bourn is safe at 2nd. Then Wiggy pops up to 2nd.

117 pitches for Wolf heading to the bottom of the 9th.

Middle of 9: Astros lead the Cubs and their booing fans 4-0.

Bottom of 9.

Ramirez: fouls a ball just barely into the stands by the Cubs' bullpen, then hits a wimpy ground ball off the end of the bat back to Wolf, who throws to 1st to get the out.
Soto: strikes out swinging on that same outside corner change that he's used so effectively tonight.
DeRosa: flies to Bourn just short of the track in CF.

Woohoo! Astros win 4-0 and sweep the series!!!

I'm glad that Cooper allowed Wolf to go for the whitewash. Pitch count-smitchcount.

He probably wouldn't have if the pen weren't quite so sketchy at the moment. The day off tomorrow will be very helpful.

This win takes us past last years win total!

Has this team over achieved, underachieved or simply achieved?

Which is why I was a tad surprised they didn't call up (Round Rock co-player of the month) big Ray King (especially considering Gearys status).

All of the above on different levels. They've succeeded despite an obvious lack of starting pitching as well as a petulant manager's propensity to fuck with the lineup.

They've underachieved during (long) stretches, and overachieved during others. Net result, I think that right now they're about where one might have reasonably expected them to be. Unfortunately, the Cubs have had a very strong season.

With the way they have been playing, the Astros could (easily) end up with 88-90 wins.

Not good enough, however.

Which is why quotes like these at the beginning of the year humor the hell out of me...  Yahoo Division Tour: NL Central: The Cubs play in the worst division in baseball, and squarely in the worst league in baseball, which will continue other than the days Johan Santana pitches.
