Journey?

My Ipod has an ecelctic admixture of doo wop, R&B and some pop like the Chairman and the Mills Brothers, with a pinch of Hank Williams (the real thing, not one of the offspring), some other "cry-in-your beer" country music (real old country-before drums were allowed at the alter of the Grand Ole Opry) and even Jimmy Durante. No Journey.

What have you got against Journey, man?  You've obviously never in the backseat of a '74 Nova listening to Lovin, Touchin', Squeezin' with a high school cheerleader.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

Dethklok - Dethalbum
Oh, Sleeper - When I Am God
If Hope Dies - Life in Ruin
Dillinger Escape Plan - Ire Works

thanks.  i don't necessarily have to, its just easier for me to do.  i dont have to worry about what is or isnt on my mp3 player, and i can manage it from my laptop at work.  so it's easy for me to change what it is on there, or listen to something specific.

It's a bad idea to buy digitally mastered albums on vinyl.  (Unless you are a DJ and doing live spins) You get the worst of both worlds-limited frequency sampling of the digital world, combined with the fragility of the analog format.

This has been an pseudo-audiophile public service announcement.

I have quite a bit of drum 'n bass that was made for vinyl and it sounds excellent on my old analog speakers.  I also occasionally buy rare punk albums, not necessarily known for their quality to begin with.

Has anyone else used the Verizon Song ID software?  My brother burned my wife a Pearl Jam CD and I didn't have the track list.  I just had to hold my phone up to the speaker for 10 seconds and the phone tells you the artist, title and album.  I spent about an hour testing it on my most obscure music and was surprised how many rare artists/songs it recognizes.  Pretty amazing technology.

Assembly of Dust - Recollection;
Sam Roberts - Chemical City;
Beirut - Gulag Orkestar;
Willie Nelson - Teatro.

I spend very little time in my car so it takes several months to go through a couple cd's, but these have been heavily rotated between in the last six or seven months. At home the Ipod goes on shuffle and I take whatever it gives me.

I have, and I enjoyed their album last year. I'm more partial to Sunset Rubdown (Spencer Krug's other side project), but Handsome Furs and Frog Eyes are both great bands too.
Don't think twice, it's alright.

I just bought the new Toadies album, after seeing them live tonight. Album name: No Deliverance.

They were, as always, fucking amazing live.

How's the record?

What I've heard of that Mudcrutch is pretty good.  How is the Ray Davies?

Great.

Ray Davies - Working Man's Cafe
Raconteurs - Consolers of the Lonely
John Hiatt - Same Old Man
Alejandro Escovedo - Real Animal
Mudcrutch - Mudcrutch

Seems like reforming Mudcrutch not only revitalized Petty, but Mike Campbell, as well.  Some really nice playing on that LP.

Journey is, uh, not really my style.

My latest CD's:

Norma Jean - The Antimother
Dethklok - Dethalbum
Oh, Sleeper - When I Am God
If Hope Dies - Life in Ruin
Dillinger Escape Plan - Ire Works

Listening to right now:

He is Legend

Are you into At the Gates at all?  I just caught their reunion tour in July.

Yes!  How was the reunion show?  I read that they won't release any new material, though.

It was pretty awesome.  I had high expectations obviously and wasn't let down.  They didn't mention anything about new material so who knows?  Carcass is back together too.

Ain't Coming Home-Silvertide
I am free-Newsboys
King of the stereo-Saliva
Inside the Fire-Disturbed
Two steps back-Saliva
Life is Beautiful-Sixx Am
Hero-Pop Evil
Who's going home with you tonight-Trapt
Runnin Wild-Airbourne
Ready to Roll-Jet Black Stare
Crazy Bitch-Buckcherry

Nah, if this were true, you'd see Deerhoof, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah! and Liars all over my lists.
But your point is valid.  I do check P4k (among other sites) frequently to find good new music.  I don't put too much stock in their reviews, since they've taken the indie attitude that once something has been critically drooled upon it shall suck from here on out.  Unless your band name starts with Radio- and ends with -head, or unless the music is so layered that you can't distinguish melody from ethereal mess, Pitchfork usually gives it a 6 (or below).
It's better than Top 40 or SportsTalk radio, though.
Don't think twice, it's alright.

Spent the weekend in Waco for the final show by one of my favorites, Ethan Durelle.

My current spins:

Zookeeper - Becoming All Things
The Hold Steady - Almost Killed Me
ELO - Best of
The Definitive Ray Charles
Tambersauro's new LP (working on a review)

Plus I'm trying to pick a song for the first dance at my wedding in March, so that's fun.  All I keep coming up with are completely inappropriate choices, like Lyle Lovett's "I Married Her Because She Looks Like You"
Drinking for two.

"My Way" by the Sex Pistols would be a romantic choice.

"She Hates Me" by Puddle of Mudd would go down well with the in-laws and grandparents alike.

I'm getting married in June - I've already suggested "Crazy Bitch" by Buckcherry, which surprisingly went over like a lead balloon.

Pandora Radio is fun - tell it what music you like and it will produce a playlist of that artist and similar artists...

www.pandora.com

Love pandora.com... nice recommendation.  It is a genius marketing idea to tap into the vast metadata for digital music and then have end-users listen and then purchase digital music of their liking.  Then you create your own playlist from music that you've not listened to before but now are aware of because of genre compatibility to other music you've liked.

I just "found" a copy of the new TV On The Radio album.  It's really, really damned good, takes all the elements that made their first couple albums great and adds catchy choruses.  PM me if you want it.

How's the record?

Sorry for not noticing this until just now.

I like it. Its not quite as gritty and nasty as their old stuff, but it still has a Toadies feel to it.

The new Kings of Leon is really good, as is TV on the Radio's latest, but that Bon Iver record is the one I can't stop listening to. I think it's the post-Ike melancholy.

Just got the new Blitzen Trapper album, Furr. Saw a review that said it's like Neil Young meets Wilco which seems about right.
