So, Randy Wolf's brother is the home plate ump tonight.  He could not serve there if his brother were the starting pitcher.  Indulge me: What if this game were to go, say 17 innings and he were inserted--Would his brother have to move to a base?  Just curious.

Matsui has left the game and been replaced by Loretta.  No reason known per Brownie.  Gameday says injured back.  Now Brownie confirms sore back, day to day.

strike called, Lews going, grounder to Tejada who tosses underhand to Loretta (who actually came off the bag before he caught the ball) Loretta throws low to Berkman, great stretch!! for the DP

Lisa Smith asked the same question that I did earlier,(regarding the Howling brothers) and JD and Brownie had no answer.

If Wolf is ever umpiring a game that his brother pitches, he does not call balls and strikes, although MLB generally avoids assigning him to Randy's games.

I assume he would swap gear with another ump.

Buns of Steel

called strike, foul, ball (check swing appealed--no swing) foul towards the RF line, Winn reaches over the fence into the stands, drops the ball (fans backed off for him to make the play), ball, Ausmus pats Molina on the butt (Molina was crossed up on the pitch), foul, ball, ball

Ausmus works the walk.

Nice hustle by Lincecum there to score. Makes me think of Dierker, I think in his book he said that when he pitched his policy was to never slide into home. Said he wasn't paid to slide, he was paid to pitch and not injure himself.

Lincecum strikes out the side.  He seems to be getting stronger and locating the breaking ball well.

He is locating it out of the strike zone, and we are chasing it. Why they swing at breaking pitches, I will never know.

If we get behind this guy again, say goodnight Gracie.

So, Randy Wolf's brother is the home plate ump tonight.  He could not serve there if his brother were the starting pitcher.  Indulge me: What if this game were to go, say 17 innings and he were inserted--Would his brother have to move to a base?  Just curious.

Nope per Froemming.

Lisa asks Froemming the question about the Wolf brother situation.  He says that he  (Wolf) would stay behind the plate.

Double switch--Keiichi Yabu (3-4, 3.60) replaces Lincecum batting 8th. Velez comes in to play 2B, batting 9th. Burriss leaves the game.

Ausmus walks.

Pence to PH for Oswalt.

Double switch--Bowker out.  Cut to Cialis commercial.

hamstringish?

I don't know... but it's really giving me the creeps. This is so similar to his uber-slump from last year... looking/acting as if hurts just to swing at or hit the ball... said ball "jumping" off his bat as if it were stuffed with wet newspaper when he does hit it... that I'm really wondering if it's some sort of chronic condition.
He was starting to show signs of life and actually hitting the ball with authority in the week leading up to the Reds series but now he's back in his funk.

It may be irrational, but I can't stop worrying that one day this is going to turn into a Rocco Baldelli-type horror show...

Tyler Walker comes in to pitch to Hunter Pence PH for Oswalt.

Jack Taschner LHP (3-1, 3.23) in to face Erstad.

called strike, ball, pop fly in foul territory, 3 Giants coverge, Ochoa slides, the ball hits him in the glove, but he drops it. ball, foul, singles to left field, Ausmus comes in with Pence right on his heels.  Both score.

Ausmus had gone back to tag. Hunter took off and almost passed Ausmus.

Pence is cracking me up with this 'lead blocker' scoring [and as an added bonus he didn't slam into the back of the lead-runner this time...].

Their inability to get to Erstad's fly ball down the line was big, too, but yeah, Brad came through.

Is Brocail shut down?

IIRC... JD mentioned something last night about getting a few rest days.

Footer called this game a snoozer for a while when it was a pitcher's duel.

What's up with that?

(I happen to love those 1-0 duels the NL is famous for.)

His last name is deceiving.  I believe he is of Filipino descent.

Yep; tv folks were talking about it yesterday or today.JD absolutely couldn't believe it.

Giants 3, Astros 4

Just so it's on the record, this is when Joey Trum stopped by my seat. He remained through Berkman's granny. Good vibes all around.
