Oh. My. God.

Watching PHI-STL, Joe Morgan starts describing the Loretta/Pence play from Saturday.

First of all, he starts with "there was a force play at the plate, Astros weren't aware of it."  Yes, Joe.  Mark Loretta, veteran of 14 years, did not understand that with the bases loaded, there is a force at the plate.

But then Joe compunds it with "the catcher took his foot of the plate, as you see, but if he had kept his foot on the plate, the runner would have been out, and Pence made have been out on interference."  Actually, Joe, what I see is that the BALL WAS ON THE FUCKING GROUND.  The catcher never once, even momentarily, had possession of that ball.

How in the name of Jimmy D is this man the lead baseball analyst for ESPN??

I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

Who knows how he got that gig. But if I had to listen to a Morgan/McCarver pairing for a game I might shoot my TV before it was over.

Oh, I'd definitely shoot the TV.  And the dog.  And God knows what else.

And I don't own a gun... or a dog.

Thought he was referring to the Mets catcher as not being aware of it, not Loretta.

Still doesn't change the fact that Morgan can't call a game for crap...

I can't imagine why anyone would want to listen to Joe Morgan.  I honestly believe I would rather listen to a drunk Haray Carey (RIP)over Morgan.  At least Haray was good for a few laughs, Joe is just obnoxiously idiotic.

Lidge is trying hard to blow this game.

I laughed when Joe Morgan said, right after Victorino's homerun: "The problem this inning has been the pitches have been up in the zone..." (cut to replay of Victorino's AB) "See... ah..." (The ball is low and in...)
"that ball is... ahum... right over the heart of the plate"

What the hell happened to "up in the zone?"  Not a single solitary word about that again by Lil' Joe.

Why does anyone leave the sound on when Joe Morgan is involved?  Masochists.

Astros sweep the Mets, Brad Lidge dispatches the 3rds.  Now that's a good weekend.

Agreed. Those who keep the sound up get what they deserve and don't deserve to complain. Hit that fucking mute button for crissakes.

It's a shame because Jon Miller isn't bad if I recall. He's also creatively tactful about correcting Morgan sometimes.

Or, if you still want to hear some of the game audio (i.e. the crack of the bat, the pop of the ball hitting the glove, the crowd) then do what I sometimes do on FOX and switch to the Spanish audio on SAP.  I'm assuming that's probably available on ESPN games.

I watched the All-Star game while I was in Brazil. The spanish commentary was fine- in fact, somewhat soothing. The voice inflection was enough to keep up with the game if I wasn't fully paying attention.

It was interesting to hear them say 'bye-bye' everytime there was a strikeout.

On a related note, there is an ESPN International version of PTI. It was just as annoying in spanish... two men yelling at each other about sports is not good television in any language I guess.

A friend of mine went to Rio, and was happy to find out that the Portuguese equivalent of "Hi!" is "Oi!".

I don't think so, because it wasn't Brazilian ESPN, but ESPN International.

Wouldn't Brazilian "ESPN" just be "SP".
