among the stellar and not so stellar COMMENTS within the thread of the story was this amended UVA slogan:   "UVA....we work hard, we play hard, now we dance!"

To be fair, I once ended up at a gay bar in Richmond for more or less the same reason (no where else was open).   Very depressing place I might add.

Right... did you have a wide stance?
I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

So it's a Virginia thing, sub-nuker.  Got it.

Homer Simpson was once in a somewhat dissimilar predicament:  Closed by cheering along, "We're here!  We're queer!  We're going to drink your beer!"

To be honest, that place could of used some better signage as to the type of patronage it expects.

Now, we're getting somewhere.  It was a market representation issue...usually is.

Gays only?  Do I really have to take you along the path to where this becomes "Whites only"?

No, I think he's saying they need one of those "Bud" neon signs with the upside-down pink triangle in the window like The Rainbow Lounge here in Tampa.

They can make it as look as gay as you like, and they can refuse to serve whomever they choose, they just can't come out and say "Gays only".  If they do, some nonce with too much time on his hands is going to challenge them on it the same way that a bunch of activists, who would rather stick needles in their eyes than hang out with the nearly-deads in the Augusta National clubhouse, protested the club's men only policy.

Yes, something along those lines would of been nice, if only because they didn't seem particularly friendly to us.

An upside-down pink triangle would signal something else to me.

Which tells us more about you than it does about any bar's preferred customers.

Or fly a huge rainbow flag, like the place on the seawall in Galveston (don't know the name).  Now if you really like rainbow flags, I could see how you might end up in the wrong place.

In a town I once lived in the main gay bar had one sign hanging in front of the establishment that simply read "Entrance in rear."

Or, they just could have named it more appropriately.  The most well-known gay bar in downtown Beaumont was called The Copa, then Grecian Echoes.  Even Beaumonters got that.

Which is better, I suppose, to "Parking in rear".
