At least he's playing. Limey, you around? I'm in some club in NY, waiting for Jarvis Cocker to come on.

Middle 4: PIT 3, HOU 0

Pirates have scored on 2 solo HRs + a run on a DP in the 2nd.

Astros are 10 up, 10 down.

Bourn with the first hit, a nice line drive over SS.

Thought Kaz had an opportunity to get a hit as well, looked like he hung around in the box for a bit before he realized it might be fair and started running.

Nice swing by Bourn though, would enjoy seeing a lot more of that as the season progresses.

Love wathing Q with the snap throw.  Sanchez was definitely out on that play (ump called him safe).

Cassel is a fine batting practice pitcher.

That motherfucker was out. Lance has to remember that Q will throw it over there with very little provocation.

So when, exactl, are the Astros issuing the press release that Coop is certifiably insane?
I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

Are you still worked up about Matsui's leading off or his bunting five runs down or what?

The press release should certainly say that the owner is insane, but the park is full and that provides a contrary indicator.

Even Scrap-iron is at the game tonight.

Pirates play pile-on with a monster 3-run homer to the tracks...  Ugh(ly).

Yes, I'm worked up about putting Matsui 1 and Bourn 2 for no damn reason.  They're jerking Bourn around in ways that are simply illogical.

Maybe he thinks he's trying to protect Bourn batting him second.

I'll know Coop's gone totally off the deep end once I see the pitcher batting 8th.

I'm trying to figure out what the trigger was for pulling Cassel after 4 2/3. If you were really worried about the game, there were plenty of reasons to pull him earlier. At that point, it's 5-0, and is bringing in Paronto really going to make any difference? Why not let Cassel finish the inning?

Leadoff batting second is his version of pitcher batting eighth.

I'd agree that putting Bourn in the 2 hole doesn't make sense, but to say the Astros are jerking him around is a little overkill...

Bourn is 116th in OBP, 117th in SLG and 119th in OPS out of 119 in the NL of players with at least 200 ABs this season (per Campbell anyway).  Don't necessarily think those type of numbers 'earn' him a spot at the top of the lineup.

It's not about earning it.  My comments about the lineup are specific to the fact that Bourn will be a leadoff hitter, or he will not be a starter - so why bat him elsewhere?

As for the other jerking him around - as the Coach commented, they have his approach at the plate so screwed up at this point that I'm sure he can't even see straight.

Earning it was a poor choice of words, point taken.  Still don't think I'd categorize him as being 'jerked around' though.
