Today seems like a good day to burn a bridge or two

The Braves got Greg Olson (Catcher not the reliever with three G's in Greg) for some balls and maybe some other equipment back in the early 90's.

The trivia buffs will know this, but wasn't there a player who ultimately (due to PTBNL) was traded for himself?

Harry Chiti was the first, and most famous, guy to get traded for himself (1962), but it's happened many times.  The most recent I can remember is Jimmy Anderson in 2004.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

Didn't it happen with Phil Plantier with us from the big trade with the Padres in 1994?

I don't think so.  Plantier was part of the big trade in '94, but the PTBNL the Astros sent was Sean Fesh.

I remember that name now. Plantier did only play 22 games for Houston before he was traded back to San Diego in 1995. I think we got a fish taco with mango salsa in the deal. I can't believe the Padres were willing to give up so much to get him back.

Actually, Plantier was traded back to SD for Jeff Tabaka and Rich Loiselle, whom the Astros then traded for Danny Darwin.  Everything comes full circle.

In the height of Bevis and Butthead's popularity, Tabaka was a great name to have on your team.

Dr. Death, even at 72, was a better pitcher.

Tabaka is still seen in Co-ard land as the culprit for the St. Looie Nation having to soil itself and claim Co-championship status in 2001.

Plantier had one of my all-time favorite swings, from that crazy crouch. It was like they took Bagwell's crouch,  switched it to the left side and cranked it up to 11.
