Bennett on RR

Labeling Saccomono and others as "25th" type players at best is pretty damning.  I'm surprised he offered that on the record.

I don't think he thinks they are; I think he was trying to spin the situation a little and it comes off as "We really don't have shit in AAA" which is probably not what you want people and players reading in the papers.  He would have instead been better off not answering the question or talking about the neat scoreboard in center or the great pool beyond right field or anything at all other than the collective suck that is the Express every day lineup.

I actually agree with Bennett.  There are some candidates to be the next Eric Bruntlett on the major league club, whether it be an outfielder or infielder.  Yordanny Ramirez, Edwin Maysonett, et. al.... nice players who will one day get a chance to be a 25th man.

There might be a Jason Lane type, too ... who comes up for a fairly extended period of abject mediocrity before being banished to Scranton (which, if you've never had the delight of being there, gives new meaning to the concept of banishment).

But they have Scrantonicity!
I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

i have not seen enough games, granted, but Maysonet has shown me nothing.

Ramirez is spectacular on defense.

Only seen him twice and both times he came off the bench as a late inning defensive replacement for Clark.  But a little birdy told me to be on the lookout for Maysonett, he may of turned the corner if his hard work is proving to the team what they think they're seeing now from him.

Maysonet is hitting .514 in the last 10 games.  I'll say that's turning the corner.

Let's put it this way: it's not by accident, but by hard work and things just clicking for him because of it.  He's always been an A+ defender and that means he's already near what Bruntlett was at one time in the minors.  I'm not saying Maysonet is a starter to be in the majors, but he's starting to show he can probably be a major leaguer as a good utility man in the making.

When he was in Salem, one of the pitchers there told me he was great to have behind him on the field.

I know Ramirez hasn't hit...at all....this year.  Is he already at the point where '25th man' is best case scenario for him?   Or is this just the reality as it stands right now?   He's one of the younger guys at Round Rock...i was under the impression his future held more value than that of a 25th man

I just happen to be listening to Sunday's game in which YRam went 3/3 with 2 doubles and a BB.  Capps makes a point to mention how much hitting coach Ron Jackson has been working with YRam.  Says they are always in the cage, whether at home and on the road, and he (Capps) has seen a marked improvement on Yordany's swing.  He's only 23 or 24, so he still has a lot of potential if he can hit consistently.  We already know about his defensive prowess.

Also remember last year, he jumped from High A to AAA.  He is currently younger than Iorg, Billy Hart, Chris Johnson at CC and Jimmy Van Ostrand at Salem.

Yes, and with Maysonet it is the same thing.  Ron Jackson and Dave Clark are making these guys realize that hard work is the only way to improve and they're taking it to heart.  What they're doing in terms of production right now is tied to the work they're putting in.  IOW - good things if what you can do in the minors, especially AAA is turn an average looking player into a decent, slightly above average player by getting them to work on the things that will make them a major leaguer.

Remember, the AAA pitchers are some guys who have been to the majors or are one or two seasons away from the majors and they're the type of pitcher who will come in with a 3-2 changeup to get guys out.  Young hitters like Ramirez are used to lower minor league pitcher who don't have this habit of keeping you guessing.  If Jackson and Clark's work with these guys is about the philosophy of hitting a major league pitcher as well as the mechanics of hitting, they're doing Houston a great, great, great service.
