During the long-ass delay while the umpires huddled and decided (incorrectly) that the ball was foul.

Luckily the Mets ran away with that one or I'm sure it would be burning up all the national talk shows today.

Joe almost broke my television when he tried to tell me that I could see more of a ball when it's up high than I could when it's down low. Um, Joe: it's a sphere. I'm pretty sure you're going to see the same amount of the ball no matter where it is.

What I don't get is Mike Riley  is in position and gets the call right. Then Jetter and Damon convince him he was wrong??? And it gets overturned by Davidson from way back behind the plate? WHAT THE.....


And on a side note to this story sorry if i am "Cabraraing" this but did anybody notice that when they flashed up a picture of Lance and how well he is playing Miller give hin some props then the great Joe Morgan replies with  something like "it what is amizing about this is how well Soriano is hitting the ball as well" ??

that call was terrible.  He was clearly out on the second throw, though.

Morgan was complaining about how instant replay would slow down the game during fill time while the umpires were discussing whether the ball was fair or foul.

The only difference with instant replay would be that they got the call right!

Yes, because they don't like it when there's runners on.  Just the same as righties.

No no. The righties were cool with it - Joe went out of his way to say that just lefties as a rule hated throwing to first. I guess maybe they're standing their, just looking at the runner. Being teased and tempted until they just can't take it anymore.

I do not like the idea of umpires coming out later admitting mistakes.  Not they should claim to be infallible, but they should make the calls, and that's the end of it.  Period.

No, I feel it opens up too many calls for argument.  The umpires should make the call and everyone move on.

How would you make instant replay work in baseball?  Limited challenges like in the NFL?  Umpires' discression on when to call upstairs?  It seems it would really change the manager/umpire arguing dynamic, which some argue adds excitement to the game if you agree with the manager but can be really annoying if you don't.  Could it eliminate that part of the game?

Replays would be available on:
Balls/strikes? (no way)
Safe/out? (probably)
Foul/fair? (yes)
Homer? (yes)

Does the umpires' association object because it undermines them or support because they get more umpires in the booth?  I'm guessing the former!

an instant-replay decision to only a few instances.  an umpire not being
in position to see a play to make a call, and definitely a homerun/foul ball situation.
