Gunther leading off against someone with a +++ curve and nothing else.

This doesn't sound...good.

and Matsui.  Yeah.  Coop is sidling up to Tejada.

i heard about matsui choosing his off-day, so didn't expect to see him in the lineup...
but, with bourn also out, this is just a huge change with pence leading off...and it is cooper's 1st choice in 3 possible lineups for tonight.
(according to a jdjo's blog)

this should be interesting.  glad it's not permanent, though.

Pence shouldnt think he's the leadoff hitter, he should ignore all the stuff about taking pitches and working the count and just hack at the first "fastball" he sees.

lots of unknowns.
oswalt "admits" that he's trying to induce more contact
with the pitches he's throwing this year
(don't think he means the home-run kind, though)

what does he need to be thinking while he's up there
on the mound tonight?

Egads...he went through this last year.  He's a better pitcher when he's aggressive.  I understand pitching to contact, but I think it makes him tenative.

Crap, the SF feed on EI.  Getting the game in HD is little consolation...

Somebody is hitting better than the Astros in May?
I remember all the good times me 'n Miller enjoyed
Up and down the M1 in some luminous yo-yo toy
But the future has to change - and to change I've got to destroy
Oh look out Lennon here I come - land ahoy-hoy-hoy

Cruz had no business diving for that ball and had he fielded it cleanly the runner would not have scored

Yeah, it's kind of a huge outfield in SF to give your CF a day off for the offenisve upgrade that is Cruz.

If Cruz had not dived it would have been a single, and the runner would have score. He decided the ball would not be caught and was running before it landed. Watch the game boys.

First thing I thought. Miggy didn't seem too happy about it.

I can't believe, the way Berk is swinging the bat, that he'd go for such a bad pitch without reason.

Just a general question:

Roy had only thrown 87 pitches when his spot came up this inning with two on nobody out.   Would you have left him in like cooper did, or go to blum or erstad off the bench with the score being tied.   I don't think there is a clear cut right answer either way, but just curious to see what most would do?

Just a general question:

Roy had only thrown 87 pitches when his spot came up this inning with two on nobody out.   Would you have left him in like cooper did, or go to blum or erstad off the bench with the score being tied.   I don't think there is a clear cut right answer either way, but just curious to see what most would do?

Would have left him in.

I'd leave him in for sure.  It's a lot of fun watching The Man From Weir and with a run a hair away with no outs, why would you pull your ace?

Because you want to give yourself the best chance to get decent separation on the scoreboard with only 3 innings left.   Again I don't think there is a right or wrong answer.

I think Roy just gave you a very specific answer.

Oh I didn't doubt he had more in the tank, it was just the situation in the game dictating the question.

Because you want to give yourself the best chance to get decent separation on the scoreboard with only 3 innings left.   Again I don't think there is a right or wrong answer.

With your shutdown pitcher throwing aspirin and a live lineup behind him, you have plenty of opportunities to get that separation whether Roy makes an out or not, and there's no reason to gamble that you won't get any runs and then have to go out there with a lesser pitcher on the mound.  Sometimes you have to go with your strength and not think about it too much.

Remember being a kid going to my first game in the dome with my dad.  Jose Cruz comes up to bat and we hear the stadium erupt in boooooooooooooooooooooo.  Hadn't been in Houston for a long time, but long enough to know that Jose Cruz was a great player and we couldn't figure it out why in the world the crowd'd be booing him.  Next time up to bat, a guy beside us was nice enough to explain they were saying CRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.  Made sense!

Bases loaded with Ausmus up.  Pitcher tries to catch Cruz sleeping on first base for an easy out.  He threw it away...way away.  2 runs come in.

The pitcher was just standing on the mound, not on the rubber or anything, first baseman was playing in front of the runner... Pitcher just suddenly wings it to the bag at first, about 8 feet wide of the first baseman. Carlos rumbles home, and Wigginton scores on the horrible overthrow from the 2nd baseman as he got to the ball.

Basically, the pitcher picked off the first baseman.

The SF Announcers said the pitcher gave the sign with his glove without looking at 1st base.

Until??   STFU

I don't see him being shipped off anytime soon.

Don't think that was his point.   He was saying he won't get the media support he should because ESPN doesn't care about anything other than the cubs, and northeastern teams.

Man, JD's Jon Miller impression was killin me.

4 games sans JD and Brownie are killing me (Scully was an enjoyable listen, but a junkie's gotta have his fix).

It's been a heck of a May so far, too.

Jane, thank you!

You showed all clarkies the best way to deal with good fortune by the local nine and also not tweak the BBGs all in one fell swoop.  This is sheer awesomeness in terms of saying what you had to say in appreciation for the Blood n Mud's performance in May and keeping the humility a fan needs to have about it all.  Very "don't say he's pitching a no-no, say "he's doing well" or "He's pitching a heck of a game"!" of you.

Well played ma'am!
