Hey, Ty in Tampa -- Radiohead
« on: May 07, 2008, 08:47:41 am »
I saw your "Radiohead Live, Astros Win" comment on the GZ last night.  I knew RH was in Tampa last night but didn't think to ask you if you were going.  I'm assuming by your comments that you went; I'm also assuming it was incredible.  I've got tix to the Houston show next weekend and I can't wait to see The-Best-Band-Since-The-Beatles (sure, that won't draw some feedback) for the second time.
How was the setlist?  The venue?  I just found In Rainbows, Disc 2 and it's everything I thought it would be.  Haunting, beautiful, etc.
I'm very interested in your feedback, if indeed you went.  Thanks.
Don't think twice, it's alright.

I did go. I'm not quite the enthusiast that you sound to be but I do like them very much and the show was quite spectacular, which was not what I was expecting. Yorke was very engaging and the stage set was impressive without being over-the-top. The set list was heavy on "In Rainbows" with some "OK.." and "Hail.." as well. They did about 2 hours. Unfortunately, we were far back on the lawn at our amphitheatre so I can't give you a good idea of the sound beyond what the repeater PA gave us but that sounded quite good, considering. Depending on where you're seeing them and where you're sitting, I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Here's a review from our local rag.

Quite different from when I saw them open for Belly at a small outdoor venue here in 1993.

I'm one of the very few people who bought an actual physical copy of the CD. Great packaging and artwork, but they went a little too arty on the fucking song titles- weird, spread-out type- and so as a result I have no idea what any of the songs are called. I think the only chance I'll have to see them in/near NYC is a big pricey festival in Jersey with Radiohead being the only band that I'd really care that much about. Ah well. I've already got Mountain Goats, DeVotchka, and Wilco on tap for this summer and that's just a start.

I'd love to catch DeVotchka live, I bet that's one cool show.  Goats and Wilco I've seen recently, and they're both very good in their own respects.

Thanks for the review, Ty, I'm glad you enjoyed the show.  The Tampa setlist looks great, glad to see they mixed in some Bends/OKC stuff throughout.  I'll be on the lawn at the Woodlands, too, so I'm sure the sound won't be stellar.  Either way I'm looking forward to a great concert.
Don't think twice, it's alright.

Looking forward to seeing DeVotchka at Red Rocks (best outdoor venue in the world) this summer.  Really bummed that Radiohead's not playing there or anywhere in Denver for that matter.  Hopefully, they'll tour in some more places in the US.

Whose Anterior Cruciate Ligament did Radiohead play at?

I saw DeVotchka two years ago at TT the Bear's in Boston. Didn't know them from Adam at the time but one of the best, funnest shows I've ever been to. Hopefully they can keep up the energy at a much larger venue.

Well. This is what I've heard. Back in '87, Radiohead managed to accompany Lt. Tuck Pendleton on his microscopic journey into the body of Jack Putter (but not in a nttawwt way). The resulting Tenacious D-esque performance on the ACL of Putter has become the stuff of legends.

It's in the director's cut.
