Fucking radio guys... Griffey's homer is squarely on their backs. "With Griffey's injury history, hitting 600 is not a foregone conclusio... Theres a drive to deep right field."

I'll do some radio-style play by play...

Top 1: Matsui pops foul to 3rd.
Erstad singles to left center.
Tejada down swinging on strikes.
Berkman dribbles one back to Arroyo, who fields and fires to first.

Bottom 1:
Hairston smacks a base hit into right field for a single.
Keppinger grounds 6-4-3 on a hard one hopper.
Griffey blasts off to deep right field. 424 foot homer.
Phillips PONCHE swinging.

End 1: Astros - 0 Reds - 1

Top 2:

El Kabong leads it off, lines it into the left field corner for a double. Radio guys giggling about which player is slower, Adam Dunn or Carlos Lee.
Pence!!! rips one to left into the power alley but it gets cut off before it can go to the wall, Kabong around to score. Pence trying for 2,  close play at second, Pence is SAFE!
Tie game now. Nobody out.

Still the 2nd: Astros - 1 Reds - 1

Loretta, batting with Pence on 2nd and nobody out. Loretta lines one to left center that sits down. Dunn cuts it off before it can go to the wall, Pence scores easy. Single for Loretta.

Astros - 2
Reds - 1

Nobody out.

It was a bit of a flat frisbee, but Pence stayed on that breaking ball very well.  It's been said, but if he gets going...

Astros - 2
Reds - 1
No outs, top 2. Loretta on first.

Towles up, Arroyo worrying a lot about Loretta at first for some reason. ball outside, ball up, swing anna miss 2-1, slider for a strike looking 2-2, fouled back. Scoreboards apparently just all shut down in Great American Whatever. Ball 3 that was apparently right down the middle, 3-2 the count. Towles may have bought that call. Towles rips one into left center, Dunn over to prevent it from going to the wall, but another hit. Loretta to 2nd.

Reds - 1
Loretta at 2nd. Towles at first.
No Outs.

Sampson up. (Arroyo is at 34 pitches already). Sampson squares then pulls back for ball one. Squares around and fouls the bunt for strike one, 1-1 the count. Sampson gets the bunt down the 3rd base line, Encarnacion charges and barehands, fires to first for the out. Both runners advance.

1 out.

Astros 2
Reds 1
Loretta on 3rd. Towles on 2nd.
1 out.

Matsui up, takes ball one just outside. Outside again, ball 2. Both breaking balls so far. Nips the inside corner with a fastball, 2-1. Matsui swings and misses, 2-2. Fouled off the catcher. Infield is back. Fouled down the first base line, Cheo snags it on a few hops and tosses it into the stands. Fouled back. Matsui down swinging on a slider. 2 outs.

Astros 2
Reds 1
Loretta on 3rd. Towles on 2nd.
2 outs.

Erstad up, fouled off for strike one. Outside, ball one 1-1. Swings and misses at an off speed pitch, 1-2. Ball up, 2-2. Arroyo steps off and calls Ross out for a conference. Curveball swing and a miss, what a shitty end to a great start. End inning.

Bottom 2:
Astros 2
Reds 1
Nobody out, nobody on.

Dunn up, high and out, ball 1. Strike one looking on a breaking ball, 1-1. Swing anna miss on a heater, 1-2. Dunn swings and misses again, down on strikes. One out.

Encarnacion takes ball one down low. In the dirt, ball two. Fouled off of Towles for strike one, 2-1. Towles dinged up a little, home plate ump takes a stroll out to the mound to give J.R. a few seconds to recover. 2-1 pitch bounced foul down the 3rd base line for strike two. Just misses low, full count. Encarnacion pops into left. El Kabong rumbles over and makes the catch. Two outs.

Joey Vatto takes outside for ball one. Smacked up the middle, but Sampson knocks the ball down. Picks it up and fires to first for out number three.

End 2:

Astros 2
Reds 1

Top 3:
Astros 2
Reds 1
Nobody on, nobody out.

Miggy swings and fouls it back for strike one. Fouls one down the first base line, Vatto gives chase and leans into the seats over the tarp, comes up just short, 0-2 the count. Ball one is way up. Miggy golfs a low pitch to right, Griffey takes a few steps toward the line and caught for out number one.

Twinkie flies to straight away left, Dunn moves 2 steps in for the quick second out.

Kabong takes ball one low. Popped up down the first base line, Vatto cruises under it and hauls it in just in foul territory to end the inning.

Mid 3:

Astros 2
Reds 1

This'll be my last half inning, I'm getting the hell outta here at the end of 3.

Bottom 3:
Astros 2
Reds 1

David Ross leads it off, swings and rolls down the 3rd base line foul for strike one. Ross drives one to left center, Erstad doesn't get there in time, and a retard fan reaches out and touches the ball as it bounces off the warning track for a ground rule double.

Astros 2
Reds 1
Ross on 2nd, nobody out.

Bronson Arroyo fouls his first bunt attempt down the 3rd base line. Arroyo pulls back his 2nd bunt attempt and takes a hack, but misses, strike 2. Tries to slugbunt again and misses again, 1 out.

Hairston takes strike one down the chute. Ball, inside, 1-1. Inside again, ball 2. Lines a single to right field, Ross got a late break and will have to hold at 3rd.

I particularly enjoyed JD correcting Brownie on Erstad's jaunt to 3rd (in the 4th) with two outs.
(Paraphrasing) Brownie: Well, with 2 outs, why not take a chance on a first-to-third?
JD: Well....
Don't think twice, it's alright.

I'll tell you what, boys, WadeSmith made some good moves. Add a good pitcher to this bunch, and look out.
Often wrong, but never in doubt.

Top 6: Fogg (RHP) on the mound.

Erstad (2-3, run):singles to center on 3-1 pitch. None out, runner on 1B.
Tejada (1-3, run, RBI): pops up to 3B. 1 out, runner on 1B.
Berkman (1-3, run, RBI): flies out to JR. 2 outs, runner on 1B.
Lee (2-3, 2 runs, RBI): strikeout.

Reds announcers slapped down ESPN a bit for the stunt it pulled on Tejada

I've felt that way since they signed Matsui.  Even more so now that I see how good Tejada is.  Only problem's that there's not much in the system to deal for another starter.

The highlight reel at the top of the 7th is another good reason to watch the midnight re-broadcast.

Mas blondes.
How can you ask me a question like that?  Do you ask The Beatles that??

This team is exciting to watch.  Their record is going to continue to improve.

That was an encouraging outing by Sampson. Don't look now, but the supposedly sub par NL Central looks pretty impressive this year.

I can't believe they couldn't squeeze that 10th run across.  What a bunch of softies.

I kid.
