I don't know if the reasons for Harold Reynolds getting fired were valid or not. I do know that he made BBTN and it hasn't been the same since he left. I met him at the College World Series a few years ago and he seemed like a good guy. He wasn't one of those people that are dicks as soon as the camera turns off.
He's on MLBTV now and does a semi-decent job, although he is not someone I personally enjoy listening to give analysis of the game today. But suffice it to say, most guys who played and are employed in some capacity to give analysis on any broadcast network are turned from pure analysis to pure entertainment rather quickly. If they can't hold the attention of the fringe fan watching the show, they can't hold the job. They know they have the ardent fan on-board already, so they never worry about them (us). The thing that is happening though is that these shows are about the fringe fans now who then parade around as if they are all knowledgeable about the game just because "I heard on Baseball Tonight that....", while the ardent fans are leaving these show behind wishing there was something good to tune into to get real information about baseball happenings.
That includes "Roy Oswalt will be traded to the Yankees... film at eleven..." sort of crap. The fringe fans who pick up those diddies then hop around the stadiums, radio talk shows, internet fan sites, message boards, et. al. talking it up about these things as if they are true. They are instead, woefully, lead by the nose to the wrong information as it were and so mistaken.
