Pinwheel embraces recycling
« on: April 01, 2008, 09:24:08 am »
Cecil Cooper should have to pay for advice this good.  (March 26, 2008)

Quote
• Never ever criticize a player to reporters. That goes for background and off-the-record sessions. No interview is ever really off the record, and Cecil Cooper shouldn't begin to think it is. I don't know that a manager has to lie. He'll have to figure a way around that. But the quickest way for a manager to lose his team is for players to think he's ripping them to reporters.

• Communication. Managers must reach out to all 25 players, preferably every single day. Jim Leyland and Terry Francona are brilliant at this. Craig Counsell told me that when he was the 25th man in Florida, Leyland would make strike up a conversation every single day, usually in front of other players. He wanted everyone to know that all 25 were important.

Here's some free advice for Cooper (April 1, 2008)

I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

He's not recycling.  It's just that his opinions are very, very, very specific.

MM, not sure if you're in the market for some free advice, but here goes. Never ever criticize a player to reporters. The quickest way for you to lose your team is for players to think you're ripping them to reporters. Communication is also important. Jim Leyland and Terry Francona are great at this.

Either that or it's the echo from the only time he's allowed in the Astros' locker room.

I don't know, but when I was browsing the Rag at Starbuck's this morning, it really leaped out at me just how specifically he was reusing this stuff.

Do I have a latte addiction?  Yes.  Do I recognize that it has a certain affectation?  Of course.

Do I care when I'm getting up from my however-many-this-makes-in-a-row late night of tax returns, this time only interrupted by Astros baseball?  Hell no.

Wouldn't it be easier to buy a coffee maker and/or a wife to make it for you.

You think it's easier and/or cheaper to get married than to buy coffee at Starbucks?  Test out that theory and let us know how it goes.

A brief attempt to create a Larry Dallas / Starbucks / Templeton "Faceman" Peck / Phil Collins Super-Avatar was derailed upon seeing the 3rd Google Images result for Larry Dallas. Some tattoo ideas are worse than others.

Reminds me:  Mrs Limey recently bought a book called "Keep Austin Weird".  There's a photo of "Leslie" right there on the cover.

To help put that from your mind, you can Google Dirk's Big Brother love interest: Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty.  Poor girl seemed to be a frequent target for the unwanted affections of has-been American actors.

because nothing screams anti-establishment like being told what to do by a corporatized, trademarked, "individualism" campaign.

No, just my way of telling you that your observation is banal.  Everyone knows it's a small business slogan.  Do you object to small businesses coming up with slogans?

I can see you now, eyes glinting in righteous indignation as you cruise through a strip mall, ripping off bumper stickers.  And as the security guard drags you away: "Ignorant proles! You'll never know the taste of an Awesome Blossom!  'Keep Austin Weird?'  Non Serviam! You're all sheeple! "
