Pitchers and catchers will arrive at Osceola County Stadium tomorrow.  Wade said he spotted pitchers Dave Borkowski, Brandon Backe and Geoff Geary and catcher Humberto Quintero at the facility.

They also let Tejada back in the country

Valverde's arbitration hearing is tomorrow http://www.orangewhoopass.com/forums/index.php?topic=104816.msg177232#msg177232

And in other news, Round Rock and Corpus Christi watch baseball at least until 2010

WOW, thanks for that.  I was at the Scotty no-no, but I've never watched in on television or taped.  This should be a whole different surreal experience for me!

thanks again...

And if I remember correctly, Gene Elston did the television broadcast of that no-no and Milo did the radio.  Gene's infamous "and there it is..." followed by silence as the broadcast took in the celebration as it ensued was what some (Milo? GM Wagner?  John J. McMullen?) took offense to because they felt more hyper screaming and yelling about the no-no and clinching the pennant should've ensued.  I think Geno was let go soon after that and Dwayne Staats moved along as well.  I hope to hear Gene and Dwayne call that game if it's the Astros broadcast that is repeated.

I watched the last few innings from a bar not too far from the station where I worked in San Antonio. I had just gotten off my shift and me and a news photog hit the place and it was buzzing. When he did it, the place erupted and the photog just rolled tape on the precedings. He interviewed a few people, including me, and we made the 10 o'clock sportscast. The beginning of a magical time.

Have Isaac Hayes sing your valentine a personalized song.

To save you time, he'll sing the words balls, lick, chocolate, bottom, valentine, "between your legs", mouth, etc.  Lots of words he won't sing are replaced with "Mmm Hmmm", "Ohhh", and other low growls.

I've always been partial to Ben Folds Five's Song for the Dumped,

Quote
So you wanted
to take a break
Slow it down some and
have some space
Well fuck you too

The chorus is great, too.  And Folds just pounds the hell out of the piano on this song too.

I always favored the openly bitter and confrontational.  "I'm Gonna Tear Your Playhouse Down", for instance (Graham Parker's version).

Or this Harry Nilsson classic.

That was fun. Gene mentioned the no-no at least once that I heard. And I guess Worrell never didn't suck.

Just watched the Kile no-no.  The Andujar play was awesome as well as nice plays by Cammy.  Kind of a weird feeling watching those three guys.

Yeah.  Thanks, homer, for posting about this.  I'd seen most of Scott's before but the Ryan and Kile ones were new to me as they happened years before I moved to Houston and became a fan.

Three hours of no-hit Astro baseball on a rainy Saturday at the cusp of the opening of spring training... not too shabby.

Alkaline Trio's Radio is my favorite of the genre.
That is a good one, despite the shudder-inducing opening line. A couple other (admittedly less bitter) ones I might throw in there:
Here Today by the Beach Boys
I Hope You're Happy Now by Elvis Costello
Who Are You by Tom Waits (including the excellent put-down, "Well go on ahead and take this the wrong way/Time's not your friend")

My favorite Tom Waits line:

"His wife was a spent piece of used jet trash, made good bloody marys, kept her mouth shut most of the time."
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

Elvis had a lot of good ones early on, Lipstick Vogue being my favorite by far.

He produced many of Elvis' first records, from My Aim is True to Trust, and then later Blood and Chocolate. Nick Lowe's solo stuff is good, although in my view none of it is absolutely essential. I liked a later record called Dig My Mood well enough.

He was also a member of Rockpile with Dave Edmunds and others.

I think he's quite good. And consistent. 14 Days is off his Impossible Bird CD which is a wonderful record. There's a lot of his stuff on youtube. Check it out and decide for yourself.

And married for a several years to Carlene Carter, so I guess he was Rodney Crowell's half-brother-in-law for a time.  And of course Johnny Cash's stepson-in-law.

His first LP, Pure Pop for Now People (or Jesus of Cool in the UK), was quite good, I thought.  Maybe not a major artist, but when you count in everything he's done (didn't he have something to do with starting Stiff Records?  I can't remember for sure), a major figure perhaps.

One of Johnny Cash's last hits was a cover of the Nick Lowe song, The Beast In Me. Nick also produced Graham Parkers' first and third LPs.
