I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

Awesome, now we'll get some sort of CSI-like investigation going:

(Congressman speaking in deep southern drawl) "Sir, as a reknown forensic ex purt... did you find any DNA matches to Mr. Clemens in any of the trace evidence on the syringes?"

(Forensic Expert) "Senator, I will caution you that it doesn't really work that easily to do that..."

(Congressman) "Sir, sir, sir... please now, just answer the question.... "

(Forensic Expert) "I'm telling you that it's just not..."

(Congressman) "Oh come on, I watch CSI... don't tell me it's not that easy...

(Forensic Expert) "Whaaaa?"

Sen. Joseph Biden: And she still didn't go out with you? [ Thomas nods no ] Now, Judge Thomas, there have been charges by Professor Hill that you talked casually with her about graphic scenes in porno movies. Is that true?

Judge Clarence Thomas: Yes, it is.

Sen. Joseph Biden: And.. did that work? Did it break the ice?

Judge Clarence Thomas: No, Senator, it actually offended her.

[ the committee is surprised the tactic didn't work ]

Sen. Howell Heflin: Uh.. what porno movie did you talk about?

Judge Clarence Thomas: Well.. I mainly spoke about a favorite of mine, called "The Hind-Lick Manuever".

Sen. Howell Heflin: That's a good movie, Judge! But do you think hard-core porno is the way to go? Because I feel women prefer softer porn.

Sen. Joseph Biden: Senator Thurmond?

Sen. Strom Thurmond: I agree with Senator Heflin. Yeah, that's right! The women like something with more stories and costumes, that'll transport 'em to another place and time. That's right! Women don't like close-ups of oversized genitalia! That's just never gonna turn 'em on!

Being from Alabama, Howell Helfin was always viewed as a good man.  He stayed in office too long however and became an embarrassment towards the end.

He had a great legal mind and was often mentioned as a potential supreme court justice.  He was one of the last southern conservative democrats.

I always smile when I think about him pulling what he thought was a hankie out of his pocket to whip his face and it turned out to be a pair of his wife's panties.  The stuff of legend I tell you.

Doesn't that describe most of congress?  I still believe that in most cases the first time elected people (irrelevant of affiliation) are there to "make a difference" and by the time they are up for re-election they have been "corrupted" into one of "them".

Goes along with something I was taught.  You become who or what you associate with, eventually.  So the more you hang around corrupt people the more corrupt you will become.

Nah.  A politician's first job is to get re-elected.  The avenue they take to do so is on them.  Some get corrupt.  Some stay the straight and narrow.  Not everyone in politics is corrupt.

Some of them may be corrupt.  It sounds like you're arguing for term limits.  But with term limits, the power of the office is reduced and the focus is more and more on campaigning, which costs a lot of money, which leads to special interests having more control over politicians.  I support the two-term limit on the President, but I don't support it for senators or representatives.

I would not oppose a term limit for Pujols.

That would be a recall.  I'm sure we could get the votes.

Quick, somebody get a scriptman to write, "Mr. Raup Goes to Washington."  To assure his sign-off, though, you'd probably have to find a way to inject the Astros into the story.  Perhaps he could be viewed turning down a bribe at a Senators game...uuurrrrrrrrrrrrrr...Nationals' game.  Wait, make it a retrospective film and let it be a Senators' game...oh, then you lose the Astros as a visiting team option.  Wait....he could wear an old orange astros cap.

Somebody set up a meeting with John Lee Hancock; he's already directed ONE Senators movie (once removed--stRangers).  Besides, Hancock's from Houston AND he's a lawyer by training.  GOLD, Jerry, GOLD!
