Sun Jan 6, 2008,PRNewswire/

global new media giant, b5media Inc. (I like when a company calls themselves a media giant in their own press release) is announcing  the launch of Inside the Ballpark (www.insidetheballpark.com). Inside the Ballpark is a new blog written by Houston Astros outfielder Hunter Pence. Pence is the first professional athlete to join b5media's blog network.

... Pence will personally pen a weekly blog post to detail the latest happenings in his life as an Astro.

Additionally, this blog will be updated throughout the week by b5media Sports Channel Editor Kori Ellis (yippee) to keep readers informed about Pence and the Astros. Link

The pitchers are going to do a lot better this year due to the addition of Tejada's defense?  Uh, ok, Hunter...
Lighten up, Francis.

It'll be a lot better than Loretta's or a recovering AE

Goddamn, even Hunter misspells Bourn's name. I'd always assumed that he was one of the sharper guys on the team.

I like how he asks the reader if they have time for a short training story. Such a considerate young man.

Should make for some good readin' during the season.

I think b5media were the ones who took over the broadcast rights to the Round Rock Express (video web-cast).  I assume that is why there is an association with Thunder Pants and b5.

Setting aside, the schlocky-myspace nature of Hunter's blog, did anyone else notice that the guy is running a sub 4.5 40?  I realize that is not world class speed but it's still damn fast.  If they put him behind Lance, El Caballo, and Tejada it is a waste of that ability.  I'm not saying Hunter is the proto-typical 3 hitter, but you have to let the boy run (assuming he's learned how to slide properly, of course).

This is just my first impression, but as a blogger I think he should stick to playing RF.

I'm looking forward to what he has to say if he keeps it up throughout the season. There could be some good stuff on there if the club doesn't put him on too tight a leash. The fact that he's not writing like a professional journalist doesn't bother me.

A legit 4.5 (as opposed to a high school football prospect 4.5) is faster that 98% of the world can run.  Are you sure that's not world class?

Semantics but yes.  Having seen someone who ran a legit 4.2, while it's only .3 seconds faster, it is a world of difference from a 4.5.  World Class, to me, means you qualify for competition at pre-Olympic qualifying level, which is somewhere below 1/1000th of a percentage point of the total global population. That's not to say he's not an exceptional athlete.

Sad story, the guy I knew (a child-hood friend's step-brother) who ran the 4.2 blew out his knee playing football.  After the surgery he ran a paltry 4.6.  For this slow poke, who couldn't run a 5 second 40, ever, that was truly disheartening.

Oh, I get it.  There 's a world of difference in that .3.  But most people who claim to run a 4.5 or below 40 can't actually run that fast.
