My favorite comment is the one saying he looks like a child molester. I don't know why i even read the comments??
Same here, but then I read this:
"I am really sick of hearing about Coors Field making hitters. Baseball is baseball."
Last year, when the Houston Astros obtained Jason Jennings, one of the complaints by some, including Dayney Boy was that Jason's numbers reflected the humidor effect at Coors. Meaning "yeah, well... he did put up good *pitching* numbers at Coors... but that is because of the humidor.... basically, offensive production at Coors has gone down and leveled out now that they employ the humidor...".
But I gather that the problem with Matsui as some see it is that since his home/road splits are vastly different, then Coors did have an effect on his numbers. Well, so far, some in here have speculated that the road numbers can be effected by the Petco and Chavez Ravine trips by the NL West player too. That would have something to do with the gap between Coors and the NL West unbalanced scheduled influenced stats. Also, at the Crawfish Boxes, there is a look at the numbers by Matsui that say he is perhaps more of a streaky hitter and that influences the stats with the noise that seem to speak to a Coors enabled hitter. And of course, what is also an influence for Matsui is the overall team makeup (especially lineup construction). If the Rockies were a well constructed team that took advantage of Coors, then of course Matsui's prowess would benefit from the team's success.
Overall, Matsui is linked to Michael Bourn and Hunter Pence now and his ability with the bat will be influenced greatly by those two men more than the field he plays on, home or road. He'll be a very good fit if Bourn is getting on-base regularily and Pence is having another good major league campaign.
