Noah Lowry?

Heyman reports that the Giants have approached the Yankees about Matsui because their offense is so bad and would likely be offering someone like Lowry -- i.e. a young pitcher not named Cain or Lincecum.  I'm wondering if the Giants might be interested in Luke as an alternative.  The offensive production between Matsui isn't so different at this point in Matsui's career and, believe it or not, Luke is a much better outfielder than Matsui.  The Giants might also be interested because Luke isn't going to cost anything like Matsui would.  And if Luke alone couldn't get the deal done, maybe a lower level pitching prospect could sweeten the deal.

Lowry has pitched some good games vs the good guys.  Like Scott, durability is a concern.  I guess it would depend on priorities.  Scott is a lot less risky as a fourth OF than Lowry is as a SP.  Would he be considered a solid #3?  Don't we already have that?  Luke's lefty power wins points for me, but damm if this club doesn't need another good starter.

Honestly, if you can get Noah Lowry for Luke Scott, I don't think you can turn that down unless Lowry reveals that his left wrist is actually made of parchment.

heck lowry being on the good guys would already be a 2 or 3 win improvement next year simply by not having to face him.   He owns the astros.

Not knowing much about Lowry, I did a little digging on him. Couple things to note:
-he missed the last month of this season, with elbow trouble that's he apparently recovered from.

"In my opinion, I'm right where I need to be going into the offseason," Lowry said. "I'm throwing at a pretty high intensity right now. It's already pretty good peace of mind for me, knowing that I'm strong and healthy again and that everything's OK."

-even though he had a great record (14-8) and ERA (3.92), he walked a ton of guys this year, resulting in a 1.55 WHIP. In 2006 he had a better WHIP (1.39) but an unimpressive 7-10 record with a 4.74 ERA. The Link

Not sure if he'd be that much of an upgrade over what the Astros currently have (in my under-informed, admittedly stat-and-news-based opinion).

update -- according to WFAN, Matsui is looking for a contract extension in exchange for waiving his no-trade clause.  Plus, the Yankees are now asking for Cain in exchange for Matsui.  It seems to me that the time is ripe to trade Luke to the Giants.

Yep, pretty much spot on.

He had better ERA this year because he didn't give up the long ball as much. I guess he's just giving in to hitters instead?
