Minor shameless (shameful?) plug (Non-BB)
« on: November 16, 2007, 11:54:45 pm »
I fell into an interesting job a few weeks ago. I am now the backup home public address announcer for the Houston Cougar women's home basketball games. Monday night I go for a sit-through to see how things work, and I cover one game in December and two games in January when the regular guy is unavailable.

I'm still not sure how I managed to get this gig, but it sounds fun, and it seems like a neat way to support my alma mater. I have been told that I will be the first female PA announcer in the history of Houston Cougar sports.

So if any of y'all folks feel like coming to a UH Lady Cougars' basketball game at Hofheinz, and you see a loudmouthed woman with a red sweater and brunette ponytail doing the PA work, come say hi.
And, by the way, f*** off. --Mr. Happy, with a tip of the cap to JimR
Y'know, either you're a fan or you aren't. And if you aren't, get the f*** outta here, because we are and you're just in the way. --Ron Brand

Congrats.  Coming from a former PA announcer, ensure you get those pronunciations down with the coaches.  We don't need a Willy teh-VAHR-es moment.

Congrats! That's really cool!

I once held the same title but it was a small taters NAIA division III AA Jr College school or something like that.

And no better advise has ever been given to someone behind a mic than what Jim said. Also don't say, ah... uh... I'm sure you'll be fine.

Too Cool!  Have fun!

The jobs behind the desk at sporting events are more work than most folks realize but you also see a different side of the game.  It's a blast.
Always ready to go to a game.
