OWA denizens:

I need your general advice yet again.  I'm meeting some friends around the AT&T Center tomorrow for the Rockets/Spurs game.  Any advice on places to eat in that general area, North, northeast side?

I know plenty of places out northwest or downtown, but I'm embarrassed to say that I'm not very familiar with that part of town.

I don't think I'd eat around the AT&T Center.

Not a great place for eats!  :-\

But it is only 15/20 minutes to DT or RW, then you have a bunch to pick from.

There's nothing worth eating around the AT&T center that I know of. But if you're coming from the northside, you can't go wrong with Los Barrios (mentioned above) or Chris Madrid's just down Blanco a few blocks south of Los Barrios.

There's plenty of nicer restaurants in the Alamo Heights area, but it's been so long since I've eaten there I don't know what's still around.

There is nowhere to eat near the AT&T center unless you plan to eat at a run down Bar-b-que shack or inpromptu Taco Stand.  Both would be health code inspectors wet dream too.  Invest some time to drive north of there on 281 to the 410 or 1604 area for the nicer places.  Between 410 and 1604 on 281 are a whole slew of eateries that are probably your safest and best bets to eat.

Not sure, but are looking for a great place to eat or a convenient place to eat?  My most favorite place to eat in San Antonio is Paesanos and they have a location in Lincoln Heights on E. Basse Rd (somewhat north of the AT&T Center).  It's not cheap, but it's moderately priced:

Also, if you want to go eat where Tim Duncan loves to dine, then you can go to The Silo, a chic place that is somewhat moderate to expensive.

I love dining there as a hidden treasure just east of the AT&T center on I-35 heading back towards Austin.

Ideally, I'd like both.  But you guys have confirmed what I suspected all along-that area is pretty much a wasteland for food.

I guess I'll head into town a bit...now, the next question is should I wear a red headband or a gold one?

Paesano's is a long-time favorite of mine. If you go, be sure and try the Shrimp Paesano..it's available as an appetizer, too.

The Silo's menu looks terrific. Haven't been but heard very good things about it.

I guess Little Hip's is closed, huh?

I love Paesanos, best Mediterranean Italian Seafood I've ever had. Never been to Little Hip's, but I've been to The Silo a few times and every time I've come away impressed for such a hideaway place.  I think many in the Alamo Heights know about it and love to come eat there because it is casual dinning (and moderate compared to the more refined dinning places in Alamo Heights).  I heard about it from my brother-in-law when I asked him for a recommendation to take my wife for our 20th anniversary several years back.  He said that if you go there, make reservations because the folks who know the place love to walk-in at any given time and ride the little elevator to the loft where they serve dinner (the bar/entertainment area is downstairs, including the smallish art museum.  So the times I've been there, I've made reservations and we walk right in and get seated promptly without waiting.  Even the walk-ins that I've seen walk in without problems.  But my understanding is that since Tim Duncan said he loves dining there after games, many new patrons are flooding the place, so making reservations is a must more than ever.

Chris Madrids. Damn, I forgot about that place. The Macho Cheddar, biggest burger I think I've ever eaten.

Little Hipp's closed about five years ago.  I think the turtle died.

Unless there is more than one, I think it is.

Speaking of Little Hipps, anyone been to Timbo's? It's supposed to be run by former LH staff.

Hell they've got gimmedraws and shypoke eggs. Outstanding. I'm old enough to have been to the original Hipp's Bubble Room as a youngster run by the old man.

This joint was out 281 in Spring Branch for a while.  It packed up about 2-3 years ago? and moved there.
